Deshyr's of the forum.

I have noticed with great aggravation the heated debates concerning the surface troubles concerning mages and templars, and the need for the Circle. We have already doubled the guard here in the assembly and I do not wish to summon more.

As a dwarf, we are naturally cut off from the Fade  And yet, as a dwarf I had been forcilby pulled into it twice! I even followed my mage lover through a mirror into a realm beyond the Fade.

Impossible? It should be but obviously isn't.

What relevance does this have to mages and templars?

Lords, Ladies, noble members of the forum assembly-

I bring your attention to the purpose of the Circles. Mages, it is said, attract demons and must learn to use their great powers responsibly. However, my friend Isabella informed me of one Messere Hawke (by the ancestors, why do surfacers from the Free Marches use that term?) having entered the Fade and encountered a Sloth Demon quite dissimilar to the one I met in the Circle Tower. This demon informed Hawke that demons are attracted to the living, end of story.

What then is the difference between mages and non-mages? We dwarves do not have this issue because of our disconnection to the Fade, but after extensive research I believe I have found an answer, or at least a preliminary theory.

What is common knowledge throughout the surface is that surfacers visit the Fade in sleep and spirits form their dreams, or at the very least, witness them. All races that aren't dwarven do so. But the mages can enter the Fade conscious and aware. They can speak with demons and spirits. They have the ability to draw their power from the realm of dreams and nightmares.

Thereby, this makes mages the main, and usually only access spirits and demons have to our mortal realm. Mages are susceptible to demon possession because of this single ability they have over non-magic men and women.

However, I have also noted with great frequancy that once in the mortal realm, Demons are NOT attracted to mages only. They are attracted to whatever living, or once living thing they can find. Templar, corpse, peasant girl, or even animals and plants. I believe my encounters with wild sylvans is enough documentation for the Shaperate on that subject.

My one-time companion Anders had written me and told me of a demon found in the ruins near the Herriman Estate, and how this desire demon influenced an entire estate full of non-magicals into doing her bidding based on the deals made by a non-mage.

I also distinctly recall several possessed templars under the influence of desire demons in the Circle.

Clearly this shows us, lords and ladies, that mages are not the only ones susceptible to demons. But they are the gateway demons have into our world because they can enter the Fade aware of their surroundings.

I have observed on the surface, that these Circles of Magi exist to protect mages from paranoid and prejudice peasantry just as much as it's to protect the rest of the world from demons. It allows mages a place to study, master their powers, and learn how to defend themselves from demons.

But the many reports I receive also denote a place of cruelty and abuses committed by the protectors known as Templars. There are many such men and women in the order who stand by and commit or allow such abuses of unspeakable horrors to be committed. I have observed and read that the human Chantry recruits men and women mainly from the religious zealots who believe their so-called Maker justifies every action that they do.

We dwarves do not worry about such surface concerns, but I fear with the templars cutting loose from the chantry and the circle's in open rebellion that our trade will suffer or that many smugglers would set up business claims to the surface, making us lose precious lyrium and valuable metals.

I write this, noble members of the forum assembly, that should demons enter this world, it won't matter if such and such is a mage or not or if the templars are invading our gates to get lyrium, we dwarves are still susceptible to demonic power. Those of us not even attached to the Fade can still be forcibly pulled into it.

Humans and Elves will bicker and fight, while demons will pull strings in the background and the living, no matter the race, will suffer. The living, no matter the race, will be influenced by demons already here in the world. The templars, the dwarves, the humans, the elves, the Qunari-ALL are easy prey as only mages have actual training but face the temptation constantly.

Heed this warning, deshyr's of this noble assembly. And remember that mages or templars are not completely in the right or in the wrong. Mages are always prey to demon from the Fade, but Templars are just as viable a target as mages themselves are once the demon is here.

Prepare your minds and the warriors serving your House and Family. The war on the surface will affect us. Whether economically or even militarily.

Your Paragon

Thorin Aeducan.

Little bit of roleplaying, and it's aimed at fanatics on both sides of the mage/templar equation.

"Mages are innocent victims, the templars are evil brutes."
"Templars protect mages because they will always be a danger, blood magic is horrid, all thing wrong is the fault of mages."
"Mages are at the mercy of the Templars."
"Templars need to keep the majority safe."

etc, etc, etc.

The main point of this, alongside the fun of roleplaying to the social network like the dwarven assembly, is to show that there's far more there than "mages good/evil, templars good/evil."

I would play in this game, but the truth is that the debate Templar / mage is not what excites me the most, on the contrary xD. But it's an interesting concept and read some post here, would be cool.

I'm looking forward to the response this gets. If any...lol.

I wonder if anyone else will roleplay alongside it?

Thorin...I beg to differ....how in the stones embrace shall a demon enter Ozormar under you're protection? hmm?

If what you say is true and the demons can inhabit the dawrven race, how shall the demons enter our fine city by knocking on the door asking nicely to let them in?

Ah, but they don't necessarily need to enter Orzammar that way. Anders wrote and told me of hunger demons already in the deep roads, in a thaig long abandoned. They are already there.

And what if some merchant came to Orzammar already possessed?

Then there are the shades. Demon and spirits who have not possessed anything, but rather draw in the essence of life around them without taking it over. How do we know there aren't any in the Deep Roads.

And while I was seeking Branka, I discovered the remnants of a Pride Demon torn Asunder, who was very much alive.

They don't need to be in Orzammar to affect us. Ever since we have regained our golems and Ferelden has been sending us aid, we have been regaining the lost thaigs. We must be cautious of demons already in our world, and demons who can enter the Deep Roads from almost anywhere on the surface. The Deep Roads have access to all parts of the surface where the war is.

That was quite an amusing read. Bioware should toss a book in the shaperate in the event we get to visit the dwarfs again.

It's kind of funny. I'm anti-templar but pro-circle myself. Young mages need a place to learn and to develop their abilities so they can control them and must learn to resist demons. However, the templars just have too much power over the mages.

I do however disagree with the view on blood magic. It's a powerful tool that can be abused but if applied properly can benefit all. After all. The templars themselves use blood magic. Take into consideration the phylacteries for example. What's inside of them? Blood. What's that blood used for? A magical focus to hunt down the mages if they leave the circle. What type of magic uses blood? Blood magic of course.

Templars be hypocrites.

Indeed they can be. Perhaps I can convince Aaron Amell to write his theory on templars using lesser spells from the school of spirit-using magic themselves. He's still working out the details for the theory. We both doubt the Chantry would approve of it.
