Something in the Tallis thread reminded me of the fact that Salit's men and, if I'm not mistaken, Salit himself wore red paint. Tal-Vashoth have never worn that, only actual qunari. Which makes me begin to suspect that Salit wasn't Tal-Vashoth at all, that his giving the list of spies to Orlais was some sort of ploy by the Ariqun... that Tallis was left out of. I suspect that what she did was actually screwing over a qunari plot, possibly related to their impending invasion. And that may be why Hawke let her go, or at least why mine did: that Tallis' damage was already done.

As the Tal-Vashoth aren't a unified organisation, I wouldn't get too carried away with the face paint. He kept his name as well.

Anyways, this seems like an odd train of thought to me in any case. She was given the task to kill him, this would be an odd thing to give to someone that is under the charge of the same person you say gave Salit his task.

Tallis said he would be considered Tal-Vashoth by the Qunari because he was handing over important information (names), and that this would be considered treason. What I gather is; she was trying to stop him because he was her mentor.Possibly to avoid assassinating him.So maybe he wasn't Tal-Vashoth yet until he handed over the documents.

Tallis wasn't given the task to kill him. She went after him for personal reasons. The Ariqun had declared Salit Tal-Vasoth, but stated that he wasn't enough of a threat to warrant his elimination.

Yep, that was Sullit's last act of defiance before leaving the Qun.  If he survived, he most likely would have removed his paint.

There is no way to know for certain whether or not Salit was a genuine Tal Vashoth or a plant by the Ariqun. We know from te main game that the Qunari are quite happy to use deception to trick the rash and ambitious. Thus having established a link to the Empress, why would they not wish to feed her false information? The Ariqun did not consider it important enough to eliminate Salit and yet knew about the list because she actually told Tallis that those on it were aware of the risks. Tallis also stated that some of the people on the list were no longer following the Qun - in other words it would seem they were converts who changed their minds. The Qunari did not desert their own, therefore there is the possibility that this list contained some genuine names mixed in with other ex-Quanri. The intent was to get rid of the ex-Qunari who posed a threat to their real agents. Of course Salit could have been a genuine deserter and a high level one at that, in which case why would the Ariqun not want him eliminated?

The bottom line is that Tallis took the mission on her own initiative, not on the orders of the Ariqun or Ben'Hasrath. When we learn what became of Tallis after the events of MoA, we will have a better idea of exactly who Salit was and why he was dealing with the Orlesians. Hawke thinks they saw her in Kirkwall subsequently but that still doesn't tell us who she is working for or what her status is or even if it was a case of mistaken identity.
