These are stunningly good.

Mansell is really good at sentimental tear-jerker stuff, like I said. Whether he can pull off more positive emotions remains to be seen. Frankly, I've never heard more than ten positive notes from the guy. I'd much rather have my

I wish I had something more than ME3 to look forward to. The wait is killing me! I really should just leave these forums and forget about ME3 until March, but I'm just too weak. I don't want to get spoiled, but spoilers are just too damn delicious!

Well, you never know, Clint can pull something else off amazing. Either that, or their getting him to make some "powerful" versions of Wall's OST. Either way, those OST's aren't going anywhere.

The new Galaxy Map music MUST blow my mind. I want to hear it in my head everytime I think about space, which is a hell of a lot.

Bring back Uncharted Worlds otherwise.

I hope ME3 has music that is so intense that it gives me goosebumps, chills, whatever you want to call it. Hanz Zimmer's Time from Inception is the only thing I've listened to that's ever been able to do that. Hopefully Clint Mansell has music that can do that in ME3.

Who the f*ck cares about the DLC's? Jack Wall made all the themes in ME1 and ME2 and they were awesome. Mansell has a mountain the size of Everest to climb if he thinks he'll match those tracks.

Ha, really? Opinions are opinions, but I'll just assume that you haven't gone to the movies lately.

Pretty much.

I can understand if someone just has a preference for Jack Wall, but comments about Clint Mansell having to climb an Everest sized mountain to match Wall's achievements are ridiculous, considering  that Mansell is the far more accomplished composer out of the two.

It would be like Bioware replacing Mark Meer with Russell Crowe as Shepard's voice actor in ME3, and people saying, "I don't know know who this Russel Crowe guy is, but he's got big shoes to fill if he thinks he can replace Mark Meer!"

Well as for me.
Wall-Hulick created a soundscape that is Mass Effect to me, drama-futuristic-synth. Mansell's slow tearjerking piano is pretty much the antithesis of this.
I listen to a great deal of orchestral epic music, I listen do it everyday on my player running or biking. The only thing Mansell written that made it to that player was Requiem for a dream. While I had virtually the entire ME soundtrack there at one time or another.
Wall-Hulick match the stuff of "Two steps from hell" Immediate music, Jablonsky, Daft Punk, Hans Zimmer etc.
Mansells stuff just seem very understated and lowkey, fitting romantic drama rather then action computer games and it rarely evoke any emotion but boredom and sadness in me.

But if people like Mansell more power to you.

I agree with you there.  Apart from replacing Meer with another guy... :/  That actually would be terrible.

To anyone who thinks Clint Mansell only produces music designed to tug your heart strings (which is amazing *cough* The Fountain *cough*), check out his other stuff... like Doom or Sahara or Blood the Last Vampire or something...

I have, they are mediocre at best. If I wanted to ditch Wall-Hulick and had free hands to get a replacement, Mansell wouldn't be in my top 15 list.

That's true - they are mediocre films though ;)  Give him good material and he spins magic.  A lot of the music in ME1 and 2 is pretty mediocre too really.  Like that whole Dr Orpheus thing >.<

Exactly what I am getting at. Jack Wall's good, okay, but acting as if he is an Oscar-winning composer and Mansell is a rookie is silly.

Argh, I wish I hadn't read this. Blood the last vampire was easily the worst movie I've ever seen. It's not even funny how ridiculously bad it is...

Clint Mansell is wonderful composer, but I had my reservations as soon as it was announced that he was scoring ME3.

I know we've heard small amounts of Clint's music in ME3, and any rational person would wait to hear more before reaching any opinion on the matter. But I know that Clint has a very distinctive compositional style, his music is very understated and he heavily relies on piano and smaller string sections, and this just isn't Mass Effect.

We know Clint can compose epic music, requiem for a dream became the definitive "epic trailer" music for a while. And it would be stupid to think Clint is a one trick pony and couldn't emulate the style Wall-Hulick have established for Mass Effect. But why ask a composer like Clint Mansell to emulate Wall and Hulick... why not just get Wall and Hulick back, or get a bigger name composer that already composes in that style i.e. Hans Zimmer (or any body at remote control productions), Steve Jablonsky, Lorne Balfe, or even Vangelis!

I am very uncertain... you could come to the conclusion that Bioware wanted a different sound for ME3 hence their decision to go with Clint. But in all the demo footage we've seen, it has used music from ME2 as temp tracks, but predominately its DLC, i.e. Arrival, which suggest that Bioware want the synths.

In conclusion, I have no idea what Bioware is trying to achieve. But ultimately I don't think Clint Mansell is a good fit for Mass Effect 3.

He was involved in that movie? I don't even have to have seen it to know it doesn't live up to the anime. I could already tell by looking at the DVD case that it was horrible.

Mansell's music for ME3 sounds amazing so far, but could you also imagine what it would have been like with a different composer?

For example...uh....John Murphy. He did the music for one of my favorite Sci-Fi films, "Sunshine."

Here's a track from that film, I keep thinking of ME3 when I listen to it lol:

It's always possible Mansell's contribution is only partial, and Bioware will reuse or adapt familiar ME/ME2 music for many areas. Perhaps he was hired for the emotional oomph parts of the soundtrack?

I can't imagine Clint doing combat music, say. But I guess we'll have to wait and see what more he does. I loved his work in the demo.

I thought Doom was a horrid film, but this actually sounds pretty actiony and appropriate to the film:

I don't know if any of you are super geeky about Doom, but apparently he incorporated the classic Doom theme (going by the comments)?

But yeah, as long as Clint's got the reigns over anything epic or emotional, I'm happy

This gets my approval, Shadow Broker had me on the edge of my seat. Did he also do Arrival?  The music for that DLC in my honest oppion is the best music ever written for the ME series.

*EDIT* Just found out it was Cris Velasco & Sascha Dikiciyan that composed the Arrival music.
Why not have Chris Lennertz, Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan all compose music for ME3.  That would have been fantastic.

Oh well.

The guy did music for Requiem for a Dream. That alone makes him every bit the successor to Jack Wall.

Jack Wall/Sam Huick were class in Mass Effect, but Mass Effect 2 didn't have any memorable tracks other than TIM's theme and The Final Run/Suicide Mission IMO.

Mansell certainly has the talent to give Mass Effect 3 a class effort. Not saying Wall/Huick couldn't either, but I believe Mass Effect is in good hands.
