I still don't get the hype about the ME1+2 soundtrack....
Jack Wall's work fits ME alright. But I wouldn't mind a new face to be honest. I don't have any of the ME themes in my music collection. There's only a couple of pieces I actually like a lot. But obviously not enough to put them on my mp3 player.

I have no opinion about Mansell so far. I watched "Moon" on Monday actually. And I've already forgotten about the music. It probably was ambient or something but nothing stuck.
But I wouldn't call Mansell a bad choice because of that. If he's any good, he'll adjust his style to fit ME. Unless he's like James Horner who keeps repeating the same theme over and over in all of his scores...

I'm not a sci-fi fan. I hate pure synthesizer music. Maybe that's why I cannot share the enthusiasm for the ME soundtrack.

The only sci-fi movie I know with an absolutely brilliant score is the "Solaris" remake. THAT score made it into my soundtrack collection. The music was the first thing I noticed about that movie. I used to listen a lot to First Sleep and the haunting variation at the very end of the movie Wear your Seatbelt when I couldn't sleep. Very soothing! Very memorable scenes, too.

Knowing what Mr. Mansell did for Requiem for a Dream, I can't wait to hear ME3. I love Lux Aeterna. Its dark, its soulful and suspenseful.

What he does for ME3, its going to be great. :D

The soundtrack for Solaris was amazing.

I took the HD intro video and isolated the Clint Mansell song in this clip. If nothing else, it saves you the trouble of having to locate the beginning of the song in a 20 minute clip every time you want to hear it.

I respect Clint Mansell and his work, he's a popular and very successful composer especially famous for his grand piano parts (the soundtrack of ''Moon'' for example).
However, I'd still prefer Jack Wall or whoever made the Arrival DLC soundtrack, it simply perfectly fit the ME series, in my opinion there was no need to change the composer(s) for ME3.
Maybe Clint Mansell will positively surprise me and can pull off the mass effect vibe, but I somehow doubt it, he never made music that would even remotely fit the Mass Effect Games. Hell, he doesn't even use fitting instruments most of the time and he wouldn't be on my list for possible new candidates for a ME3 soundtrack.
I think John Murphy (Sunshine, 28 weeks later) or Steve Jablonsky (The island, GOW) would have been a much better choice.

I suspect BW is going for a more cinematic orchestral soundtrack with lots of piano in it, for a more emotional experience, completely different than the previous two games.

Thanks for uploading. Seeing that scene again reminds me of the first time I saw it at Gamescom. Projector screen with surround sound blaring out. The reaper sound interspersed in the theme giving everyone in the room that knowing of what was about to happen and I don't think there was a dry eye in the room that day after that.

Has me wondering though whether the beta is older or more new in comparison to the E3 footage, because during the vent scene at E3 it was the same theme as at the end. Yet in the beta it's something new/different in the vent scene.

Personally I think it would be more appropriate for it to be the same theme in both instances because it then makes the end to the intro a reprisal of the theme but with the added sound of the reaper signalling the fate of the kid. Not saying the beta vent music isn't good, just this music makes sense in both scenes.

Clarification: I want synth in ME3, similar to the music in ME1. You know, 80's sci-fi film vibe, etc.

Me too, ME2 lost some of that 80's sci-fi imo. I would like a mixture of ME and 2 for ME3's music.

I don't think that's his music.  I think it is from Arrival, and the last bit is the ME2 main theme.

The last bit is indeed ME2, but it's “Normandy Reborn".
