God those 'lol she dead Ash on Virmire' jokes used to bother me back maybe three years ago but these days they just bore me.

Anyway OT:
I haven't seen the video, I missed the chance when it was on youtube for free and I'm sure as hell not going to try to download it, so all I can do is go with the pictures and gifs in the Ash thread and a few descriptions.
From how I understand it, it may be more tense then spiteful. They haven't seen each other in a long time and the last time they met face to face it didn't end well. It would make the reuinion awkward.
I just hope the reaction is a little better emotion wise if Shepard and Ashley had previously been romantically entangled.
Then again asking the default male Shepard to be emotional might be asking a bit too much.

Honestly Shepard is the one that's spiteful first. Ashley's relatively happy to see him at first, but Shepard just kind of brushes her off.

They both probably have issues to work out.

I think it's this simple: she's sad. Sad that their friendship/romance ended suddenly and that it'll never be the same between the two of them, it's been too long and they've changed so much.

Now, we all know Bioware will most likely give us the option of rekindling a romantic flame or friendship, but she doesn't.

As everyone else said, I didn't interpret it as spiteful. More like she was reminiscing about the good old days and maybe a little sad that those days are gone.

Looked to me like there's wariness between them. Not spite. Things were said on Horizon that can't be overlooked easily. At this point, Shepard and Ash don't know where they stand with each other yet. Maybe they can be friends again. Maybe not.

I'm curious to know if that's the standard playout or if LI Ash and Shep have a different scene.

I thought that they both were glad to see each other but that was not the time or place to stop and chat about the past. Not yet, anyway. When Vega asked if she knew him, her response was more sad than anything to me.

That was the Beta, and looking through it, I think alot of the content was edited. Halfway through a conversation with anderson it literally skips to the end from halfway through.

Nah didnt seem spiteful, only reflective, what was, is and could've been type thing. will be interesting to see how it plays out for Shep's who romanced her then switched LIs, or never romanced her in ME1 but chose one of the ME2 squaddies. Also remember in that clip, shep was booted from the military for Bahak, so she might not see him as the same person she knew during the hunt for Saren, sorta like "the shepard i knew wouldnt have done that."

I understand what you're saying, but the problem I have with that is that it only takes into account there being 1 Shep (Paragon). Because if Ruthless/Renegade romances Ash in ME its not like he's done a 180 personality-wise by ME3. Ash and Co from the SR1 are going to know that that Shep is ruthless/cutthroat/(insert relevant adjective) and killing 300k Batarians wasn't going to have him lose any sleep when it comes down to a galactic scale when the Reapers hit.

I understand what your sayin Slayer and Ryzaki, but if he was a ruthless, i dont think she woulda had that wistful reminisce type voice as like you said, it was to be expected of a ruthless shep, or even better a ruthless mindior survivor, batarians are his bane. i'll just reiterate this though, we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out, since its not march yet (stupid calendar/time....go faster!)

Game starts with a Shepard "from scratch", therefore, Ashley never was his LI. The events of ME and ME2 did happen, so they're comrades, maybe friends and there was Horizon. So Ashley's line makes sense.

I dunno if we're going to see a different line in case Ashley was Shepard's LI in ME. I doubt she'll know the commander cheated on her, so the lines for a loyal!Shepard and and a disloyal one should be the same.
