It's okay, even manly men can have feelings. :D

Yep... wish more men would learn that showing their emotions isn't shameful (not to women anyway... though I guess for your fellow guy friends maybe it is?)..Nothing "unmanly" or unattractive about men who show they can feel the impact of emotional events - quite the contrary in fact, I wish more guys were willing to show they can empathize rather than just staring coldly or dispassionately.... the only unattractive kind of crying from guys are those who cry because they don't get their way or if they drop a hammer on their foot or such :P

I'll have you know that dropping something fairly dense or heavy on your foot can be kind of painful so I think we men have a right to cry. Moral of the post: Hammers freaking hurt.:D

It didn't help that I already knew what would happen to the kid. However, it was still well done and I suspect that it would have tugged on the ol' heart strings had I been playing/seeing it for the first time. Especially when I realized that the kid at the very very begining was the same little fella.

I've seen too many movies that it's desensitizing when someone dies. Usually the only way I get misty-eyed is when its a very well established character and how it effects the people who have to survive without them (see Forest Gump) if any of the major players from Mass Effect bite the big one in this game and its done with real emphasis on their death as opposed to a rocket in the face and walk off then chances are this will be the first game to actually make me cry.

As cheap as it is, it worked for many people. People wouldn't be shedding tears if it was Expel 10 guy.

While it was sad, I have to admit I had to laugh at the words "...Gets totally Reap'd".

That's a poorly done poll. And he wasn't Reaped, I don't think. Isn't "reaped" when you get made into the slushie?

I cast a vote for the Weepers. We are much scarier than the Reapers as we wield the power of dribbling snot. :D

Pfftt oh come on... I'm a woman and I've had a sapling tree impaled through my leg putting me through months of therapy and recovery..... just over a week ago I flew off my bike and broke off a piece of my rib that forced me to have surgery to remove... never cried once though from the physical pain of any that (though I did cry at one point during my physical therapy when I was learning to walk again.... that was due to emotional anguish and frustration though, it was slow going).

If I as a "mere" woman can handle that without crying you big burly men can handle something as little as a dropped hammer on the foot ::P ... you're allowed to scream and swear when it happens... but no crying :P , that's not "manly", heh.

Crying because you have emotions and can empathize? That's fine though, and a welcome trait in guys.... though I don't profess to speak for all women of course.

I'm not going to lie, I already knew the kid was gonna die and I thought "Well, that sucks... moving on." But after I saw the little guy crawling into the shuttle I went from 'meh' to "OHMIGAWD! WHY?" I have no idea what it was about that scene but it was why I cared that he died.

Even though right now I don't think its Shepard broken psyche. I think I would want it to be that Shepard going through mental problems would be great. Also I don't consider Nihlus, Jenkins, or even Pressley well known characters. Just side characters mean't to be expendable.

So who would you have killed off?  Anderson?  Udina?  Hackett?  I mean for all we know at this point, Hackett could be dead being that they couldn't hear from the fleet.

Those would be very expensive deaths.  There needs to be a happy medium between someone the players care about but not someone who has an astronomical investment in.  Also it should be someone that the company hasn't put an astronomical investment in.  Keith David, Lance Henrickson and Bill Ratner are big voice actors that don't come cheap and beyond just the characters, the actors themselves have large fan investment.

You need to kill someone with impact but not someone that would cause a fan uproar.

Plus killing a child sends a more level message for people who have differing opinions on different characters and also for people new to the series.

If they killed off Anderson, some people wouldn't really care because they may not like Anderson.  Others may not have played the previous gamees and therefore the death would have no impact.  A child, especially one as portrayed in the opening, is someoen that everyone can feel bad for.

Seriously. Impaling and loose bits of sharp, broken bone. Not sound fun, yeah?

Women often have higher pain thresholds than men. Which is why we are the ones to give birth. :innocent:

Well it's not as if I purposefully jammed the baby tree through my thigh or something :P (skiing accident)... and I certainly didn't inentionally hurl myself off my bike either  .... stuff just.. y'know... happens.

Magnum. That's just grand, mate. Glorious.

Eh. Reminds me why I don't ski and stopped riding my bike. I get less injuries when I just let me limbs flail around without the added dangers of metal objects around me and my feet not directly in contact with the ground.

Plus there was that one with the soccer net and the shattered arm. Good times.

Wow you had to go through some physical therapy too huh? Sounds rough just like my reconstructive surgery. I had to learn how to walk again over a 9 month period, not fun. Emotions came to the surface plenty of times because of fustration.

This.  Yes, it's a cheesy narative ploy, but whether you cry, scream "Go Reapers!", or just roll your eyes, the message is sent loud and clear.  As for Shepard’s reaction, I wish there would be a way to control it w/ the scene still remaining visceral.

I've seen GMagnums posts for so long here and goddamn it's relentless. I can't help but roar with laughter at his comments, just brilliance. I bet he's some secret super intelligent scientist or something, it's not possible to be able to come up with the stuff he says, he must plan it somehow.:bandit:
