Your martyrdom is amusing.
There are legitimate concerns about the player's level of control over the character, Shepard, sure. I'd probably prefer it if fewer lines were said without player input. But it's hardly a slippery slope.
I agree with you, for the most part - but seriously, playing Cassandra is tired. People have been prophesising doom far too much lately.

Its part of BSN. I can't remember it ever being different.

Why do people love to jump to stupid conclusions?
Why?!
It's BSN. Jumping to retarded conclusions is mandatory.
I don't see a retarded conclusion in that post, buster. You'd better shape up if you expect to stay here long. :-P

@elitepinecone: You're right, 7 minutes full of auto dialogue his hardly a slippery slope. I figured that if I posted this before the demo came out, the fanboys would band together and start up their drama. However I did so because I'd rather raise my concerns on the leak, and find out that the demo had more choice rather than not say anything and find out it didn't add any. So come January a more concrete judgement can be given.
-Polite
Right.
And so in four months when there's another seven minutes of auto dialogue you can say you told us so?
I understand your concerns, but really. It's hardly the best idea to be bellicose at a time when the general mood (as far as I've seen) is optimism about the game. At best you're inadvertantly starting a ten page flame war (oops!), and at worst... you knew this and wanted to cause it anyway.
We can argue about the specifics of how much control over Shepard is required, I think you'd get a hundred different answers if you asked the forums. It's Bioware's decision, and I'm pretty happy with the way it's turned out so far. It could be better, but it's not the highest priority.

I'm confused on what the problem is here. Yes there is an "action mode" where a large chuck on the dialogue is picked for you. But there is still "story mode" and "rpg mode" which fucntion just like the Mass Effect we all love. And lets be honest, none of us here are going to play action mode.
This.
I want to play a game where I shoot the sh*t out of things in a 3rd person game i'll play GoW3 or Space Marine. When I play Mass Effect I at least have the illusion that i'm affecting loads of things no matter how small. Rather than just the order in which I kill enemies.

Such a shame that people who make positive contributions to the forums have to spend their time arguing with haters. Oh well. It's BSN.

Malcolm Shepard- Although Malcolm tries to do right by others he has a major blindspot when it comes to batarians ever since the raid on Mindoir. He wants to treat all aliens equally but his unfortunate first encounter with the batarians has colored his perceptions. Through a romance with Liara he evantually learns that not all aliens are like those slavers on Mindoir, he begins to regret his actions on Torfan and sets out to be a better and fairer person evantually culminating with him sparing the rachni, helping the krogan and uniting the geth.
John Shepard- A cold sniper who's life on earth taught him that might makes right, but only when that might is used justly. As the most mighty soldier in the galaxy, John has taken it upon himself to brutally punish all those criminals he meets. It was his actions on Akuze that taught him to value his squad, as such he takes Garrus under his wing and the two share a bromance (hopefully a romance if ME3 delivers but I digress
Marian Shepard- A deadpan snarker with almost no mercy. The raiders on Mindoir made her feel weak and helpless. When she mastered her biotic powers she swore "Never again". Following this she comes off as a bit abrasive and more than just a little bit of jerk. Her decisions often seem cold and sometimes downright evil, but Marian always sees it as justified actions for preserving the galaxy. She lightens up a little bit in ME2 when she meets Thane who helps her to show mercy. On occasion.
Maeko Shepard- Plucky but in no way incompetent, Maeko grew up fairly isolated as a Spacer. She loves her parents and often bases decisions on what they would do in that situation. Maeko looks after her own, especially Liara who she falls in love with. In ME2 she shared a small "thing" with Garrus but evantually ended it out of loyalty to Liara. Maeko enjoys helping people, all people. She sees everyone as inheriently good, even Saren, but this beleif is being shaken during her travels. ME2 sees her becoming more cynical, even to the point of mistrusting the geth and krogan enough to not help them.
NONE of these characters are any less unique because they shared the same conversation.

I hope the meat of the game is very different from this, the RPG mode not being an RPG would be the final insult.
I think the point is that the whole game is a RPG. Combat mode just puts more emphasis on the RPG = Combat idea and story mode is more about the Roleplaying. RPG mode is supposed to combine the two.
Were it up to me I would have just called RPG mode "Standard Mode" but whatever. They're both RPG modes, just of a different variety.

I just don't care anymore.
But I no longer really care about what direction Bioware takes the franchise.
It's clear me and Bioware no longer share the same vision for the ME series or RPGs in general, so I'm just going to pick the game up (eventually), finish the story, enjoy some of the companion's dialogue, ponder the moral quandaries and leave the franchise at that.
As for future Bioware games? I dunno, maybe pick them up when they're in the bargain bin.
Yep exactly how I feel!
