I bought Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition at Best Buy today (Saturday). When I try to install, it gets 15.6% through (the script reads: Extract: packages\\core\\data\\anims.erf) and then, after making very sad wheezing noises, tells me that the installation failed.
I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit (SP2)
Intel Core 2 DUO
2GB RAM
116 GB free space
ATI Radeon HD 3450
From looking at the forums and official FAQ's I've seen and tried a few workarounds:
1) Open with windows explorer, copy files to hard drive and install from there --- FAILED
2) Open with windows explorer, change setup compatability to Windows 2000 and install from disk --- FAILED
3) Use external DVD drive to Install --- I'm working my friends to obtain one, but this may take a while
4) Register the game online and then download the game from EA --- I registered the game, I downloaded the Origin download management software, but I see no way to download the game without paying for it a second time.
If someone can either help me out with number 4 or provide a fifth solution (preferably one that has a chance of working) I would really appreciate it.
I plan on calling EA technical support, but they are only open Monday-Friday during hours in which I am not at my home computer, so that may prove difficult.
Thank you.

On origin you are supposed to be able to click a cog symbol and then choose enter the code to dl.

Refer to the Stickies. Particularly Raen Imrahl's "Read First".

Did you realize that after you sorted out the install problems, you would still face a performance problem? You have a relatively elderly Low End graphics card that was only designed for charts, graphs, presentations, and spreadsheets, not for game playing. You won't be able to select either nice quality image settings or fine grain screen resolutions without causing the animations to bog down.JCOAR wrote...

Here's a misleading comparison, because the official minimum was set erronneously:
http://www.gpureview...d1=555&card2=54
According to that, your card has maybe 1/3 as much performance.
I know they were wrong, though. They were even MORE inaccurate naming a Vista minimum, going the other way. Here is what that should have been:
www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php
Your card is about half as good, and that doesn't amount to much at all.

Thank you mcsupersport. The cog drop-down menu offered an option titled "Redeem Product Code," which is what I needed. After four hours of internet research and trying new things I must have become delirious, because I would have sworn that I had already tried that. Oh well, 20 hours of downloading later and I'm finally able to play the game!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Over time, low end hardware, particularly graphics, can deteriorate from the stress and constant overheating. Pushing it beyond its design limits shortens its useful lifetime drastically.Gorath Alpha wrote...
