Something everyone can answer. (I at least couldn't find an earlier poll about this).

Edit: If you have any particular interests in music, you could list or discuss them here - it's interesting to get an idea of people's tastes - aside from simply what they're listening to at the moment...

I have pretty broad musical tastes (jazz, classical and ambient to name a few) but at the end of the day I'm primarily a black metal fan.

What bands? Are you familiar with the more out-there, avant-garde black-metal?

I'm mostly on stuff like Ulver (though there's little of black there), Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Dodheimsgard etc... Though some old school is real nice - Mother North by Satyricon comes to mind.

Edit: and, oh, Emperor and Enslaved.

Yes. Does that include any Yoko Kanno, Jun Maeda or something from Neon Genesis Evangelion?

Edit: Oh, and Furi Kuri (The Pillows)!""

Prefer Pop, allthough I like alot of music.

80's were best. But I like -some- music from 00's too.

Oh, I love those. Especially some etudes by Debussy.

Though more of a contemporary and Russian 20th Century buff here - Shostakovich (+ this), Prokofiev and Mussorgsky (+)to be specific.

I don't believe any of the black-metal bands I like fall into the category of avant-garde (at least according to Encyclopaedia Metallum).
I do love me some Ulver, although only their later non-BM releases are really 'avant-garde'.

Have you heard of Diable Swing Orchestra? They're a pretty sweet avant-garde metal band.

Yeah, I use the term "avant" quite freely here. And Diablo Swing Orchestra kicks ass. :D

Unexpect, Augury, Blind Guardian (Time Stands Still At The Iron Hill; And Then There Was Silence) and Diabolical Masquerade do also come into mind in the metal section.

Do adore the more shoe-gazers - Alcest for one.

One last blip I'll add in: Neon Genesis Evangelion's OST is a must hear. This is a truly beautiful song, I could probably listen to it on loop for an hour.

I have a pretty narrow musical taste. I don't listen to alot of things besides metal, "metal" being mostly power metal and death metal. But I listen to all sorts of 'em.

You're welcome to add in much more.

I really enjoy getting some idea of what people like in music (and not just the thing they're listening to at the moment).

If a person has any musical tastes, it should be shared I think. :)

Should have added brit-pop-rock and such somewhere there... And Video-game music could be complemented by Anime music. Also, Jazz was left missing. Isn't there any way how to edit the already existing poll-options a bit? :/

Nubuo Uematsu's Final Fantasy compositions evoke a certain place and emotion like no other...Uetmatsu and Square's other composing giant, Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears) are just totally at a whole other level...

So, what do you guys think of the new Metallica output? Sure gave me a few laughs, though it's not absolutely horrible in places (I actually enjoy a couple of them songs - most of it is dreadful though)... - Full Album

This is more of an overall:

The very Blasphemy in music was Increasing the sound of Electric Guitar to level of insanity [Metal]. And people call it real music ... just because Rock is not good enough for you.

Haha. You're right in a way.
But you do know people will disagree with all of that anyhow? I absolutely adore metal when it has sufficient artistic and harmonic/melodic/rhythm qualities to it. Sure, the harmonies are less easy to hear out and it requires training, but overall they're there and quite rich in overall.

The textures there surprise and bring a sense of majestics that cannot be achieved without the wall of sound effect I think...

Or is it a question of aesthetics? Do you for example like Shostakovich? That's kinda metal in aesthetics if you ask me.

I generally like Pop music. I enjoy listening to four hour DJ mixes, something you'd hear at a club or on a Radio station's Friday night mix. I like the freshness of a remixed track.

Other than that I really enjoy Pop Country groups like Lady Antebellum, Alternative Rock like Dashboard Confessional, any of the R&B singers I grew up listening to, and the occasional Video Game Soundtrack.

I'll listen to most anything at least once though. And I'd never wear the, "I don't listen to the radio" sentiment as a badge of honor.

That game looks neat. And very soothing music, very nice indeed...
