Just because you've done nothing wrong, would you be ok with anyone snooping around your house? Want some groceries? The guys at the market gotta check your house first. Buying some books? Sure as long as we can have acces to your stuff. That's Origin for ya.

I have a pirated SimCity on my PC even though I have the original disc. I still use Origin. I just don't think they will waste their time going over every individual account so I don't really care. I assume all the information gathered is purely for marketing reasons.onelifecrisis wrote...

It was a half-joke. Given your reaction I'm guessing 1986 isn't your DOB...

Marketing reason?
I suppose you know how lucrative information gathering can be, if you don't, think about companies like Google and Facebook to get the idea. Origin is nothing more than a spy-system that's looking for data on EA's (dumb) customers' computers, which they will sell to the highest bidder.

Because it's like Steam, except that it doesn't work.
Yeah it's like Bizzaro Steam. It does nothing that you would expect it to while it does all kinds of unexpected BS behind your back. Simultaneosly incompetent and malicious, it really is quite remarkable.

I have question but the Origin thread intimidates me. If you've no intention of playing multiplayer and the comp will be offline except for the required one off registration login after installation, is Origin still an issue?
Unless you block origin in your firewall, it can and probably will still connect to the internet

I have Origin (this PC is only used for games and surfing game-related websites, so EA can scan it all they like). I used it to install DS2 using my Steam code for that game. I then deleted all of the Origin executables.
DS2 runs just fine. Other games might not, but it shows that Origin doesn't necessarily have to be doing anything for SP games to work.

Whatever was wrong with the old days where you could just INSTALL a game, off a disk, and not have to worry about DRM, cludging up your PC with 3rd party software, online authorisation etc etc etc.
And don't say "since piracy" - because god knows DRM doesn't work at preventing it. Skyrim isn't even OUT yet, and it's already been pirated on the xbox.

Just to add...
I just ran a quick test. I restored the Origin executables then uninstalled Origin. DS2 is still on my HDD, and it still works.

Actually, Ubisoft's version of Origin (I forget the name) has proven exceptionally good at defeating piracy, but that one does require a constant connection to the Ubisoft servers to play SP games.
