You guys need to Google RedLetterMedia. Watch his reviews of the prequels.

Then come back and renounce your previous acceptance of them.

Linked for the lazy. Be forewarned though, the reviews are almost as long as the movies themselves.

At least the reviews are entertaining.

Yikes, tl;dw.

At any rate, I rather like this critique of Revenge of the Sith (language warning):

www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi

I lawled pretty hard at that one the first time I read it...

...

...but I still like Revenge of the Sith.

Battle of the Heroes is the best piece of music ever created, son!

Yea, Episode III has some best epic & tragic pieces of Star Wars.

About Episode III, I find many scenes/moments of it very deep and acceptable, even saying of The Legacy by Obi Wan and the Vader's NOOOO. Also, An intelligent being cannot deny the tragic depth of executing Order 66.

Ahhh yes ... professional reviewers.
I think i hate prequels already.

Now i will go, read the escapist reviews of DA2 with
"Bottom Line: A pinnacle of role-playing games with well-designed mechanics and excellent story-telling, Dragon Age II is what videogames are meant to be"
and change my mind.

"The Phantom Menace" must be bad and "Dragon Age 2" must be very good just because some PROFESSIONAL reviewer said so.

Ah I forgot about that fat ugly thing. The rest of the number minus that was good though. Jabba I didn't mind though it was more of a "Wait why do we need this, Greedo just said people are after you."

The Light Saber I think is soemthing from the original films, not sure though. In the Special Edition it WAS the old Anakin, DVD is where that changed, on VHS Its still him, why they made that change beats me, also speaking of changes from VHS special Edition to DVD, was changing Boba's voice, in VHS first release from theater it was the same good ole Boba, in DVD remakes in the early 2000's it was dubbed over with Jango's VA.

Its like I said pick up the Special Edition on VHS if you can or hell google it and then Watch the DVD, its like Lucas went

DUDE THEY LOVE THE CHANGES LETS MAKE EVEN MORE THAT WEREN'T IN THE THEATER EDITION LESS THAN 4 YEARS AGO AND TELL NO ONE!

And yes the Blue Ray will add even more changes that that. Basically, its like...

First release in 70's, re-release in 90's lets refix some of the technical stuff, add some cut parts of the films, 2000's DUDE The fans hate our prequels and brag about the Triligoy, lets add more stuff connecting it to Episode 1-3, and make the bad guys look more lame (In reality Lucas is pissed the Empire has more fans, praticularly Boba Fett.)

Blu-ray will be more of the "tie-ins" and character degradations I expect.

But the Special Edition on Film, is great, the transfer a few years later screwed it up with more add ons. In fact the haphazard way Star Wars is ran I'm willing to bet if we broke into the Lucas Ranch right now and found the "book" as Lucas calls it that states all of this was planned from the start, all will see is a cartoon picture of him in it swiming in money. And in an Ewok Suit.

What worries me is what changes we will see to ALL of the Films if he makes the rumored Rereleased Special Edition 3D collection *shudders*.

How many re-releases will Star Wars have?

And that last sentence just..<ugh>

Yeah I do, I mean the prequels in general aren't as bad as some people make them to be. Sure Jar-Jar is annoying, but he's as Obi-Wan said a primitive(less developed or "younger") life form. Also apparently some didn't find the Force being described by science as something good, but I think it's fairly all right. I really enjoy reading the works of Dr.Curtis Saxton and his attempts at bringing scientific explanations into the Star Wars universe.

LOL. I do have to admit, that whole "midichlorian" thing was pretty pointless and lame.

"Qui-Gon, what does the scanner say about his midichlorian count?"

*crushes scanner* "IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!!!"

"WHAT NINE THOUSAND?! NOT EVEN MASTER YODA HAS A MIDICHLORIAN COUNT THAT HIGH!!!"

About Order 66....

I do get a little emotional when Aayla Secura bites it. Here we have a hot blue chick who gets shot in the back by her own troops and then they just continue shooting her while she's on the ground. They keep firing blaster bolts into her corpse.

RedLetterMedia is not a professional reviewer.  He made those review videos for fun.  They're more entertaining than the movies, and you actually learn something about film while he criticizes the movie.

Personally, I'd rather see the fine gents in your sig take the Star Wars prequels for a whirl - I'm sure they'd add a whole new layer to the Star Wars prequel experience.

I am a fan of the original trilogy and I liked The Phantom Menace.. a lot. Also, I don't understand the hate for Jar Jar, I actually liked him.

Then the movie where Yoda fights Count Dooku, I thought that scene was awesome.

The RedLetterMedia reviews aren't correct in their critique of the films. In fact, some of what Stoklasa says is just downright false.

And I'm the one that actually made a thread about those reviews. I guess what comes around goes around.

As for whether I actually liked The Phantom Menace, well, I did. The film still has a place in my heart because I actually grew up with that film. I don't know why I didn't like A New Hope when I saw it, even though I watched it before The Phantom Menace. It was only after I watched Revenge of the Sith that I started to like the fourth film.

Does the film still have problems? Hell yes. But not as much as some people think.

Most of the time, he's clearly joking.  The rest of the time, I still see what he's getting at.

The vast majority of the time, what he's saying rings true.

Most of the time, he's clearly joking, yes, but most of his jokes coincide with his criticisms on the films. Like when he suggested that everyone was too afraid of Lucas or that Lucas was too self-centered in his work. He showed a clip of AOTC behind-the-scenes footage and there was nothing remotely suggesting any of the people around were afraid of him. Doug Chiang. Samual L. Jackson. The ILM guys. Ben Burtt. They all had their fair share of input.

That said, I agree that he makes some very good points, but people should start thinking more for themselves.

Those things in particularly he explicitly said were just his interpretation and attempt at explanation.  The criticisms of the movie proper still stand.

Of course people should think for themselves, but if their thinking says, "Boy this guy is right a lot and has a good way of saying a lot of what I was already thinking" what have they done wrong?

Oh wow, those are actually the MST3K guys? But I thought... holy cow.

You have my thanks. I'll be watching the prequels again very soon... with a twist.

I actually liked it, not because it was well-made but because it was what brought me into the SW universe, I happily watched it 9 times in theatres during its first run. Yes, I know, how can I call myself a true SW fan but for a kid (which I was at the time) I found it thoroughly enjoyable despite all the chessy bits. Most of the criticism is justified but the target audience (kids) probably appreciated TPM a lot more than the veteran fans that had been expecting something better suited for them.

Well, of the SW prequels, it was the best one. But I suppose that isn't saying much. I saw it at the proper age, so I thought Jar-Jar was funny, and never really saw him as a racist caricature like some people I know. I actually like the overall movie. It had the best lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul, and it spawned an awsome N64 pod-racing game that I played way too much of when I was a kid.

I thought Attack of the Clones would be about the same level of goodness, but the dialogue just went to @#$% in that one. Revenge of the Sith did better, but could never redeem the bad lines of Episode II.
