They changed the scene of Han shot first first becuase they did not want Han to be percived to be as a bad guy. I quite personally liked it.

The problem is it destroys damages his arc by flattening it.

He can't progress from being an opportunistic jerk smuggler mercenary to good guy who does the right thing if he's always the latter.

So of course that was the point, it was just... the wrong thing to do for the character.

I only liked Attack of the Clones.

When you skip romance scenes that is.

Was far too kiddie for me. Anakin, Jar Jar, the stupid robots. If it had been in the darker tone Revenge of the Sith had it would have been perfect. Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul were actually good and so was most of the action. But I can't watch it again, was my least favorite of the prequels.

Best part of "Phantom Menace" was the episode of The Simpsons mocking it.

To be perfectly honest I don't care about Star Wars in general anymore. If I ever did.

The prequel trilogy to Star Wars isn't that bad, I and a lot of others still enjoyed it a bit, but I think its just that the original trilogy was so much better and Attack of the Clones was really really mediocre...

Also Jar Jar Binks was kind of unecessary...I've gotten over him a bit but still...

EDIT: I also agree that the Han shooting first was better...

I always thought that in the first movie he was a badass bounty hunter criminal like person and that through the movies he settles down a bit and becomes less wild/more good purposed. GL irritates me sometimes. I hope he redeems himself with this live action stuff he is doing.

It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great like the previous Star wars films. It had Liam Neeson though, he alone makes the film worthwhile.

Most of the time, he's clearly joking, yes, but most of his jokes coincide with his criticisms on the films. Like when he suggested that everyone was too afraid of Lucas or that Lucas was too self-centered in his work. He showed a clip of AOTC behind-the-scenes footage and there was nothing remotely suggesting any of the people around were afraid of him. Doug Chiang. Samual L. Jackson. The ILM guys. Ben Burtt. They all had their fair share of input.

That said, I agree that he makes some very good points, but people should start thinking more for themselves.

Those things in particularly he explicitly said were just his interpretation and attempt at explanation.  The criticisms of the movie proper still stand.

Of course people should think for themselves, but if their thinking says, "Boy this guy is right a lot and has a good way of saying a lot of what I was already thinking" what have they done wrong?

Nothing, but this wouldn't be the first time someone in a Star Wars prequel related thread came and suggested seeing the RLM reviews or posting a link to the RLM reviews in order to change peoples' minds on the movies. Also, while Stoklasa did say that he wasn't there and so he wouldn't know, he's still wrong in his interpretation because there was no reason supporting his interpretation. Even the footage that Stoklasa shows in his review doesn't convey an atmosphere of fear. I'm just surprised that he interpretted it as so.

As for the other criticisms of the movie, well, I'd disagree that they still hold up. Like when Stoklasa suggested that Qui-Gon didn't have a personality or that the movie didn't have a main character.

I liked the phantom menace. Of course I was a kid at the time watching it with my father so perhaps my memory is skewed with nostalgia of some sort, but I did enjoy the movie.

I remember first watching the movie and being wowed by the swamplands, the pod race (and having an absolute blast playing the n64 podracing game) the huge battles involving the droids. (I always play as the trade federation any chance I get in videogames because of those droids)

I had fun with that movie. It might not be as grand as the original trilogy, as deep and those romance scenes were creepy and annoying in all of the prequels, but I enjoyed it, and yes I even like jar jar, although only in small doses.

Pretty much this. Red Letter Media makes some valid points, but I thought that the review was intended more for laughs than for serious analysis. Truthfully, any movie can be taken apart if you hate it enough.

I like my 20 minute version. It goes like this: A couple Jedi are sent to Naboo to negotiate a settlement between the Trade Federation and the planet. The Trade Federation are like "Pfft, let's get this invasion started" and they try to kill the Jedi. But the Jedi make it down to the planet and are like "we need to get to the Queen!"

Skip ahead (Read: skip the Gunguns) and the Queen is being escorted to wherever by these robots when two kickass Jedi jump from above and destroy everything. And then Qui-Gon is like "we need to escape" and the Queen is like "no" and so then Qui-Gon is like "....fine."

Skip ahead (Read: skip all the way to the end. Like, all the way.) Everyone is trying to sneak back into the castle through the back hangar, but suddenly this BAMF is standing in the way. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are like "we got this," so the Queen's handmaiden is all "we out."

So the Jedi are fighting Darth Maul while the Queen is trying to make it back to the throne room. And her handmaiden makes it and is all "EPIC FAIL" to the Trade Federation. And then the Trade Federation is all "you're not even the Queen!" But then they discover she, like, totally is and we're like "Whaaaa?"

Then Qui-Gon dies and everyone is sad. And Obi-Wan and Yoda are talking about how Darth Maul probably wasn't the real mastermind. And then Yoda tells Obi-Wan he's leveled up and gets his own padawan. Cut to a lingering shot of this young kid at Obi-Wan funeral and the music is all "Dun dun DUUUUUN!"

The End.

That said, I really did like the movie when it first came out and feel it's the strongest of the three prequels. That's right. Strongest. Revenge of the Sith is very likely the worst movie I have ever seen, saved in public opinion because it has shinies and supposed (no, not even) depth.

This was hilarious. Pretty accurate assessment of the plot :P

It has the coolest Sith Lord in it, of course I like it. Just not fan of Jar Jar or Natalie Portman.

No one over the age of 10 with an IQ over 70 can say with a straight face that they like it. Straight up one of the worst films I've ever seen. Watch the redletter review to see why.

That movie was terrible, and this is the only good thing that ever came of it.

Image IPB

Qui-Gon Jinn & Juice

Ingredients
2 oz Gin
1 oz orange juice
1 tsp superfine sugar
1 orange slice
Mixing instructions
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the gin, orange juice, and sugar. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with the orange slice.
Little known fact: This is the choice of Jedi masters everywhere. One sip of this powerful beverage and the Force will truly be with you.

My IQ is almost double of 70, and I like this movie. :P
The first part, Coroscent scenes, Naboo battles, Final Duel. All are very good, other parts are boring. But whatever.

What the hell was wrong with it? It wasn't super awesome, but it wasn't a completely terrible movie.
