I'm talking about the Drednought not the Reaper.

What's the point? Dreadnoughts are powerful as hell to the Citadel races. Reapers are much better. Why couldn't a Reaper which is supposed to be a very powerful being not be able to have the weapons to take out a Dreadnought?

The reapers have landed on Earth, that means the fleet has failed to stop the reapers and have been wiped out. That dreadnought is now redundent, it has no back up, and its stuck over Earth. If it tries to run, it will die. Essentially the Captain of that ship knew that his/her ship was going down- so why not attempt to buy the civilians some time while your at it. Fight or flight, they chose to fight.

Using one of your 8 Dreadnoughts in the atmosphere is a tactically atrocious idea. An utter failure.

While in atmosphere, you cannot FTL away. While in atmosphere, you cannot use the main gun because a 40kT shot would destroy buildings around it and the ship itself. While in atmosphere, you cannot manoever as easily thanks to gravity. Wasting a massive ship like that? Retardation.

That dreadnought's captain probably had little choice in the matter. Surprise attack and all that.

Good, Reapers are supposed to be powerful. Remember ME1, it took an entire fleet just to take one out. That's the way it SHOULD be.

"Hey, let's bring this dreadnought into close orbit so it can get blown up and look cool."

"But it doesn't work like that! Dreadnoughts can't GO INTO THE ATMOSPHERE! They weigh too much, would never be able to achieve an escape velocity, and couldn't even fire their weapons for fear of destroying the ship."

"Lol doesn't matter we want to blow it up and make it look cool."

I don't understand.

This may have been posted already but if I am correct ( I may not be ) the Dreadnought they are talking about is the Reaper Dreadnought fighting the Alliance cruiser, from the Art of Mass Effect 3 it is a cruiser.

i think it was a criuser. a dreadnaught entering atmosphere makes no sense. the decks are perpendicular to the axis of the ship. meaning once earths gravity kicked in all the crew would fall to the wall.

"The decks of large vessels are arranged perpendicular to the ship's axis of thrust, so that the "top" decks are towards the front of the ship and the "bottom" decks are towards the rear of the ship. "

also this "Dreadnoughts are so large that it is impossible to safely land them on a planet, and must discharge their drive cores into the magnetic field of a planet while in orbit." if you discharge your drive core, whats powers your ship to keep it hovering in atmosphere?

Ashley - "They're gonna take down the dreadnought!"

It was a dreadnought. Denial won't change that.

Maybe it was a cruiser that was named the "SSV Dreadnought" Posted Image.

ZarHall Y U necro 10 month old topic?

Anyway...

If a single Reaper (Sovereign) could destroy the Destiny Ascension, the largest ship in the galaxy, a single dreadnought would be nothing. Especially one in earth's atmosphere, which was probably holding back so as to prevent collateral damage and was most likely there just for evac.

It is not a dreadnought. It is a cruiser.

There was a slight oversight in dialogue writing so everyone says it is a drednought. I think BW even admitted that it was an oversight.

Case closed.

I thought that Alliance Dreadnoughts did look different from Cruisers, especially noticeable in one of the ending cutscenes where a certain plot device jumps through the relay (I'm being vague because of the no spoilers forum). The Dreadnoughts seen escorting it are distinct from the Cruisers because the build isn't as smooth, is more blocky, and the central, bulbous 'nose' structure extends past the 'wings,' unlike with Cruisers which are far more smooth and sleek, with the 'nose' not extending past the wings.

There was a slight oversight in dialogue writing so everyone says it is a drednought.

In what way could that make any sense at all?

Besides, who care? Codex says that it takes for Alliance dreadnoughts to take down one Reaper, so it's perfectly believable that one Reaper can take down one lone Alliance dreadnought.
