I just spent an hour tearing the walkmesh out of an area because I thought that was the cause.  Nope.  I used the Will-o-wisp VFX as a placed effect.  As soon as I took it out, the area was fine again.

Ouch, that bites. Well you could perhaps use the Will-O-Wisp creature and turn it into an immortal/immobile statue from the on spawn script.

That VFX "will rain destruction down on you and your ship. [It] is an albatross." (reference? ;))

Yes, I found out that the Will-O-Wisp VFX is baaaad news. I think it even messed stuff up when I placed it down as a creature, or placed the VFX directly on a creature. I'd delete it but the VFX (and maybe SFX?) would stick around.

It's really irritating, so giving a heads-up is good.

There are a number of vfx that when you place them, and then delete them, the vfx remains visible. It's highly annoying. Air elemental vfx especially, as it's also very loud.

One of the swirling colors ones hangs around in the toolset too. I think the problem with the Will-o-wisp VFX is that it requires a special skeleton or something and I think will only work if attached to a creature.

Yes, the *astral_clouds* effects are annoying that way. There are also a number of effect files will crash the toolset if used as a placed effect, but work fine when generated in the game. It would be nice if there were a way to distinguish (at a high level) between the effect types and their various properties, such as with a plug-in tool.

Hmmm.... I wonder if the will-o-wisp VFX could be added in game? It is such a good vfx.
