Maybe peoples' expectations are just too high. So now anything BioWare does isn't good enough for them. Which is just sad.

is expecting  food to be consistently good at the same restaurant expecting too much? not really now is it?

ME2 was not as good an RPG as ME1 (the devs even said so)....hence people were disappointed (at least those who were looking for an RPG at least as good as ME1)

DA2 was a worse game in pretty much all departments compared to DA:O according to a lot of people (I would say perhaps the majority of people and reviewrs).....

this has nothing to do with expectations

"better" and "worse" are completely subjective concepts, thus your statement cannot be factual truth.

ME2 may be better "for you" but saying that becase YOU believe it to be a better game than ME1 that does not mean everyone else has to think so as it is proven by the simple fact that there are people who strongly believe otherwise. That is not even considering  the fact that  people may consider SOME parts of ME1 better than the equivalent parts of ME2 and and not the whole game.

Well, I think everyone agrees that it was a rushed game.  I mean, the recycled areas.  It also didn't help that DA:O sold a lot (more than ME1) and DA2 is one of the weakest selling modern BioWare titles. But yes, many of the purists who hated the ME2 changes have exaggerated the weakness of DA2 to make their point.

And as I said before, this would be some concern if we thought that BioWare listened to these arguments and planned to return ME3 to the various sins of "old school" RPGs (e.g. vendor trash, excessive die rolling).  But they aren't.

Nor can I. So I tend to just translate most of these types of arguments to simply, "It's bad because it's different from what I'm accustomed to."

That's almost always the underlying cause of these types of reactions - and it does seem to catch on with others who wouldn't beat their chests about it otherwise, almost like a stampede or mass hysteria.

This. Dragon Age 2 is regarded by everyone generally as game that isn't as good as DAO and didn't necessarily live up to general expectations. Honestly I can accept that because DA2 could have been a great game like most Bioware totals (excluding NWN)

Now when people go on about "it was a complete fail." or "It was a disaster." That is when I just stop listening because DA2 was a good game but it felt rushed and to limited. Even the story while interesting could have been much more better if they spent time on it. DA2 was basically what many of the critics needed to attempt to prove that Bioware has become the worst RPG developer in actuality it isn't. DA2 was a game that just simply wasn't a game you'd expect from bioware which means it isn't great.

I have been buying up to this point based on faith generated by Origins and ME1and previous titles, however, going forward, no more pre-orders. I am going to wait for reviews and such now before I buy.

I am not a kid anymore and can easily skip titles without it being any skin off my back. I'll just have to wait and see.

Sir,  it's not jumping to conclusions,  it's just logic and reason.  You cannot shoehorn in features where they don't belong and end up with a decent project.  Especially in the middle of a series meant to be a cohesive trilogy.  Dragon Age 2 will likely look tame in comparison.

Considering that you haters never use logic and always jump to conclusions with little or no evidence.
