I've played through at least part of Mark of the assasin a few times now and I noticed a few banters that seemed awfully like they were supposedly ominiously hinting of final future events for Hawke's story in Dragon Age 2.

The first time I played i took Fenris with me and early on he had a banter with Hawke where he talks about why Hawke it so willing to involve himself with others. Hawke has several possible responses but what stood out to me was that Fenris said "One day you won't be so lucky" or something to that effect.

I wouldn't have thought that meant much but later when I tested out what possible banters Carver has on another character he said sometihng similar. "Some day this is all going to end" or something to that effect. Did any of you guys notice anything similar with other characters? Do you think they mean anything or are they just flavor? To me I kind of got the impression that perhaps there will be a final DLC on the vauge horizon where Hakwe bites off more than he can chew or is drawn into one final crisis and dies or otherwise meets some final end to his tale. I would imagine in such a story , it would be after the final battle and tell a bit of an epilouge for the rest of the game.

If they killed off Hawke, I think I'd have to join the DA2 haters.

I think those quotes are more about the ending, then anything else. Hawke involves himself with the mage and templar conflict and then..... BAM!!!!! He/She just got caught up in the middle between a war that is going to take over all of Thedas.

At the time I took those comments to mean nothing other than 'stop being so reckless Hawke'. Or possibly foreshadowing the events that are going to take place at the end of the game. Now after reading your post Jedi Master of Orion, I'm not so sure. I can see those comments as more. If I know anything about Dragon Age, and I know very little, it's that it loves to end on a bitter sweet note. I'm pouting now a mentally stomping my feet, no bitter sweet endings. I want sunshine, rainbows and more fancy Orlesian parties... and a pony, that farts purple sparkles.

Ok, the truth is deep down I want the story to be as good as it can be and if that means Hawke has to be blown into smithereens by a Qunari explosive then so be it.

Some friends of mine once speculated on the existence of a darkspawn riding a plump unicorn that excreted rainbows. While I'm not keen on the sunshine, or the Orlesian parties (unless there's plenty of cheese), I want Hawke to go down facing off with Rainbow'spawn. Really, the finishing move cutscene would be glorious!

As for foreshadowing, I didn't give any such lines a deeper meaning beyond Hawke's tale not being an exceptionally happy one. And since the DLCs take place before the final battle in Act 3 on the grand timeline, perhaps the dialogue is meant to convey a sense of foreboding for that most dark moment.

But then, I'm still of the mindset that a certain Witch is collecting heroes, and if Hawke is going to meet an untimely demise, it will be when the ultimate endgame is played.

I thought it was, if anything, foreshadowing of how things already do end in the main game. Remember, even if you do the DLC post-game, it's supposed to take place before the ending of the main game. The end of the game shows how Hawke's getting involved in various affairs can lead to trouble. It's why Cassandra is investigating Hawke.

A certain witch collecting heroes...

That makes me think of Flemeth of some kind of harvester who can assemble and disassemble at will, which would explain why she can have pieces of herself in various places. With each hero collected, she becomes stronger. When one hero is killed (as in Origins), the "core" of Flemeth still remains.

Well, I don't know that she's playing succubus, or plotting any Voltron manuevers (instead of lions, they would be griffons!) - the way I see it, she's building an army. Now, whether said heroes are aware of their role, or if they will discover the part they're intended to play at said time, remains to be seen.

Well the devs/writers have said that Hawke will appear again. So I doubt that he bit it.

Fenris was on the run by himself for years. Before that, he was a slave. In between the two? He personally slaughtered a group of rebels who had been sheltering him after Danarius found them.

So, yes, I'd expect him to be relatively pessimistic about the value in continually sticking your neck out to help others.

I've become very attached to that theory about Flemeth gathering heroes, but now all I can hear is Peter Cullen saying Flemeth, Defender of the Universe! Someone with artistic talent needs to draw Voltron as griffons led by Flemeth.

OP--I didn't take those as Hawke's demise (I played all post campaign) but more as to the state of the group dynamic. Kind of hinting that the group will split up much like Varric states to Cassandra. That Hawke's continued ways of finding trouble may be what eventually drives the group to go their seperate ways and not just the mage/chantry/Templar conflict that happens as was alluded to.

I have this weird mental picture of Marric, The Warden, & Hawke all trapped in this castle waiting to be released for something big. :wizard:

Don't forget the Guardian of the Ashes also mysteriously disappeared with the Urn. He said he has to continue his role until Tevinter falls and having survived over 1,000 years, it's unlikely he just faded away gracefully. (I never polluted the ashes but if you did, did he attack you as well as Lelianna and Wynne?)

That kind of reminds me of an episode in Gunsmoke (can't remember which), where Doc informs Marshall he's (Doc) removed 15 bullets from him.

Eventually you just get a cut or a puncture in the right place. Or it might not even be that.

Hawke isn't going to live forever; she might get hit by an arrow, sliced by a sword, or die of cancer.

You know, I'd be more than happy if they kill off Hawke instead of "making him disappear" or some lame plot device that they'll left without conclusion.

After going back and replaying Awakening and listening to the banter between Anders, Nathanial, and Justice, I definitely think the devs will foreshadow the future games in the party banter. The question is if we'll pick it out or not.

That said, just foreshadowing a "bad end" for Hawke is a little vague. Tho I would like it if the final dlc/expansion for DA2 did give us a taste of how she disappeared, rather than have us go into DA3 just knowing that "Hawke and the Warden somehow both disappeared and why have no idea why/how."
