He's an optional quest-giver (otherwise someone else does it), and he appears with a friend to give Shepard information and do a mission. The friend is a new character, so if Jacob dies they show up alone.

I refuse your reality and substitute my own. Not really but I wish I could bioware, but I'll have to play your story and not mine sadly. That one always ends with Shepard pissing on a dead reaper.
Also this thread is pure hilarity now. In this corner we have all of ye that hath given up faith in Bioware for selling out to action gaming and in that corner we have the great defenders of their messiah that is Bioware, in the name of justice.
In the end puny humans, we do not matter. We will all give our money to EA and Bioware so they can light their cigars with it.

Much obliged! I should have seen that coming. Poor Jacob isn't even essential for that mission.

So Shepard finds out he can't kill Harbinger without him ASSUMING CONTROL of another Reaper? So in order to kill Harby Shepard has to sleep with Liara in order to get her pregnent so when Harby is killed he ASSUMES CONTROL of the unborn child instead? And afterward Liara leaves and is never seen again right?

This Mac Walters is somehow even worse than Drew at being a writer, holy moly I didn't think it was possible

Well, while some of the Spoilers I've seen are questionable, I must say that I am glad that not all Paragon choices will end up having a positive effect in ME3.

It did concern me that Bioware might reward the naive Paragons while punishing the bad, bad Renegades, but now I'm fairly satisfied.

Spoilers. But absurdly retarded ones at that.

Shepard should just pummel Harbinger with cruiser gun fire, infiltrate the ship, and kill the core.

While other ME2 characters do seem to have bigger parts, none of them are actually 'essential'.

It seems most of them have replacements that do the same thing, if they aren't there.  

Though for some of them, instead of a replacement there's nobody there at all, and in some cases bad stuff happens. That's about as specific as I can get without spoling anything.
