It seems Bioware has reached a new low.  They apparently have sent a cease and desist order to the NeoGaf forum demanding that all discussion of the leak be removed.  I mean seriously going after an independent games forum to try and cover up a screw up by Bioware and Microsoft, really really nice work there.

I wonder is Bioware going to send a cease and desist to itself ?  I have seen more discussion of the spoilers here than anywhere else.  How about sending cease and desist orders to the other seven thousand forums where it is being discussed ?

I don't know what to be frustrated about more. Microsoft's end for leaking this in first place or The people who put a bulk of the story or anything spoiler into some demo.

I'm going to give Jesse the benefit of the doubt and believe what he says about it not being a final draft. But don't tell us to not read the spoilers if they're just outdated. It just only makes me think that there is some truth to that.

There was no demo.

This is a beta build that was never, ever intended to be seen by players.

Ofcourse they should allow this catastrophe to spread and continue on as a punishment for the likely idiocy of one or two Microsoft employees.

this whole thing smells why would the beta of a demo have all that info

It's something called a tlk file, it held internal design considerations in what was likely an encoded form inside the core files of ME3, the people who downloaded the demo transferred it over to their PC and datamined it for the tlk files. Mass Effect 2 had them, DA2 has them and most games have something in this vein so that when production passes out of the storytellers hands into those of the artists they don't have to constantly check in with the storytellers.

This particular file is likely older than the E3 demo since most news outlets are confirming that the demo is the same one they were shown behind closed doors at PAX and Gamescom, which means that they've been building up off the E3 demo till this point. This isn't likely to be the demo we'll get in January as I'm guessing that they'll take the files they need for that from the launch build rather then continue developing a demo build in parallel.

Thanks now it makes microsoft look like they might have done this on purpose to get back at BW for going to PS3

Considering that's where all the information spread from, the C&D was justified.

To be honest ME series isn't that big of a game series for them to do that.

Just in time to make it completely pointless since every games site on the world picked up on the story.

Keep those RSS Readers fresh, BW!

So you think that Microsoft would risk pissing off one of the biggest publishers in the industry... because they didn't renew a contract? Goddamnit, gamer conspiracy theorists are worse then the staged moon landing guys.

They aren't trying to stop knowledge of the existence of the document, just what the actual document said.

There is NOTHING they can do to avoid it spreading, sending a cease and desist to NeoGaf is totally and utterly pointless.  This information is EVERYWHERE what are they going to do send a cease and desist to the internet ?  They should be expending their energies on asking why they thought it was an intelligent idea to hand a beta that had the whole damn plot in the game over to Microsoft, a company that has shown time and time again it CANNOT be TRUSTED to keep things secure.

Unlikely, the beta leak was also accidental (sp) as well

Erm no it didn't originate from Gaf it originated from BIOWARES russian forum.  All Gaf did was post a link to it.

Actually the news spread the the russian bioware social forums where it was originally leaked then nuked from orbit once the Russian mods realised what it was then onto the English ones and only then did it get onto GAF.

Hey I'm agreeing with you. Plus the belief that Bioware purposely push a unfinished 6 month old build out on purpose to build up hype and added in a crap load of spoilers in it is totally plausible. I bet the actual demo would have been the exact same as the beta with even more spoilers.

Oh right, forgot about all of those people in Russia that would've spread this information to the English Bioware forums.... OH WAIT THEY DON'T EXIST!

And this is why you never should've added MP and should've released it on the original planned release date.

Not such a good idea to push it back in hindsight eh BW?

Big difference. Those leaks were like a few weeks before the games came out. This one is a few months before ME3 releases. That is not intentional.

All these leak does is bring more attention to EA and Bioware for ME3. This will either make it the highest selling game in 2012 or the biggest flop. Its kind of weird that EA is releasing their KAR game a few weeks after ME3. This is just generating more info for Bioware even if it was an accident. The story writes are now getting a very good idea of what the fans are looking for so they don't have another DA2 meltdown on their hands. Bad press will get way more attention from fans then good press will, hopefully it works for Bioware and doesn't go nuclear in their face.

What does that have to do with anything ?  You said it originated on NeoGAF and you were clearly wrong. It originated on Biowares own forums and was up there for a hell of a long time (nearly a day if I remember correctly).  All that happened is someone on NeoGaf found it and posted a link to it.  If it hadn't been Neogaf it would have been some other forum.  This is just pettiness by Bioware from what I can see.

What this leak does is much worse than that. It isn't all sunshine and bunnies.
