Depends.  Maybe Shepard masters whatever the device is and can basically command the Reapers as an extension of his own will.  Or Shepard downloads into the Reapers' collective consiousness and becomes the main willpower.  Either way, Shepard gains control of the Reapers as his/her own personal fleet of uber unstoppable machines, for better or worse.

I would say that's a perfect ending...  Shepard, God Emperah/Empressah of Mankind (or the Galaxy).  I love my 40K Emperor references sorry.

I don't understand why anyone is upset with the basic ending outlines, taking completely out of context and without any understanding of what the "deus ex machina" everyone is referring to actually is. There are oblique references to the device in the script, but there's nothing that explicitly spells out what it is and how it comes to be. Inferences can certainly be made based upon the spoilers, and they're probably accurate, but based upon everything we've learned in the past two games, they're hardly as out-of-the-blue as you're trying to make it sound. What other ending options were you honestly expecting? These have been the outcomes everyone's been talking about since ME3's initial plot was revealed. Why are you crying foul on them now?

I mean, seriously, aside from doing X, Y, or Z to the Reapers, what did you honestly expect was going to be possible?

THAT'S WHAT THEY CONSIDERED A PERFECT ENDING?!? What ****ty logic is that! 

Perfect means its the hardest one to achieve, Like saving all companions in ME2. Renegade choice are usually considered "Failures" but that dosent mean anything its just how they organize the script...

Saving all squadmates was not the hardest ending in ME2 to achieve. Shepard dying was.

Correct, my mistake, you need a very "perfect" game to kill Sheppard, it will probably be the same to "let the reapers win" a bad ending that requires alot of metagaming to achieve. Dont forget some Paragon decision are called "Success" and Renegade choices are called "Failure". Again this is just how they organize the script.

They needed to get to a certain place orbiting a certain place. The Reapers aren't just going to let them waltz in.
