The fact that Ashley would listen to Udina proves how malicious and/or ignorant Mac Walters is towards the VS. The Ashley Williams from ME1 would never, EVER a believe a politician over Shepard.

I doubt Kaidan would either, after Udina's behaviour in ME1.

this means choices you do in me1 and 2 are to be easily ignored or not worth much. and you think Anderson would uncover whole plot or at least stopped VS or Udina. /facepalm

That's because he quits the council in one of the novels, forgot which one, and my guess is that it put too much pressure on him, never read the novel, BTW.

Urhm not really.
spoiler:
VS wants to kill Prothy, not Shepard.

I didn't want to include that detail but yes, however, *spoiler*
Kai Leng is still working for TIM and VS is there to deal with Shepard because she takes Udina's word over Shepard and that is the point.  There is NO WAY that VS should be even with Kai Leng opposing Shepard on Udina's say so....and certainly not Ashley.
*end spoiler*

Wait, now I'm even more confused, what's going on between the VS and Udina?

Alright here's the skinny:

*spoilers*

Udina is apparently indoctrinated and convinces AS that Shepard is a traitor that needs to be eliminated, and calls on AS as a Spectre to do just that....and has him/her work with Kai Leng who we both know...but somehow AS does not even as a Spectre....is Cerberus. Essentially AS comes with Kai Leng to kill Shepard almost solely on Udina's say so....not the whole council....just Udina.

Apparently part of that is Udina convincing AS that the other AS death on Virmire was a deliberate act of Murder by Shepard.

*end spoilers*

At least that's how I read it.

Yeah, that's how I understood it as well.

But the sheer absurdity of trusting Udina riles me.

Plus the fact that in years and years of being a top-secret Alliance officer and then Council Spectre, Ashley or Kaidan had never heard of Cerberus' top wetwork agent, had never read Anderson's report on the events of Retribution featuring Kai Leng, had never checked the dossiers of known Cerberus agents, and had never once questioned Udina's motives despite him being a slippery manipulator.

And then they have the gall to accuse Shepard of betraying them?

It's all so ludicrously contrived. If you're going to throw in a traitor scenario, at least don't make it reliant upon the traitor being incredibly dumb.

Also, re: fighting Kai Leng and avoiding deaths, that's an interesting interpretation of the scenes. I wasn't sure what to make of it, since it's all very jumbled.

But yeah, there does seem to be a cutscene where Kai Leng is forced to activate the explosives and then runs off with Prothy, leaving Shepard and the squad alive.

Of course, if the VS confrontation is before that...

(I'm just hoping I don't have to make that choice. 'Cause that choice *sucks*.)

In the novel in question, Anderson was Udina's advisor and never was coucilor.  That entire choice has been completely destroyed by Bioware.  That's all I'll say without a spoiler shield.

It is.  AS arrives as Kai Leng's ally and is ready to attack Shepard on Udina's say so.  You have to talk AS out of that first or kill them before the battle.  THEN you (might) have the option of saving both AS and Liara but no, AS betrays Shepard first.

*end spoilers*
