I still think ME3 will be a fantastic game. But its definitely not what ME1 promised. No spoilers.

I amost cried reading the script alone, and I was smiling when certain returning characters were mentioned.

And there are all sorts of ME1 salutes in there that I wasn't expecting.

Best of all, the Cerberus plotline was not dumb.  Even Kaiser, Lord of the TIM fans, is relatively pleased.

I only skimmed over the spoilers myself, but it's getting pretty unanimously bashed over on Neogaf.

Please.  Madden gets unanimously bashed for getting the layout of certain football stadiums slightly off.

This is the internet.

I aslo get the feeling that the neogaff people weren't reading it carefully or didn't understand how it was layed out.  Most of their complaints I completely disagree with.

This pleases me. I think I'll leave for the next four months in the next few minutes, a couple of spoiler-free discussions and social aspects of BSN notwithstanding. (I'm not a huge Cerberus fan or anything, not really, but I'm still glad to get your opinion that it's handled well.)

Not to mention...

...it's NeoGAF.

IF it weren't for a certain loathsome c""" of a user, I would most likely wind up crying when certain events would play out in the game. Now I just hope I can still appreciate the work Bioware made.

That's good to know. At least now I have an idea of what to expect, without knowing what to expect, if that makes any sense. ;)

If some of what I've read played out I think it will still make good on the promises of ME1 because I've always expected that there will be consequences to my actions. ME1 and ME2 presented opportunities for "perfect" runs where you could do just about anything and keep everyone alive.

I think that comes at a cost. Unintended consequences. Characters who have their own motivations and people they want to protect that may run contrary to my decision. There shouldn't always be a way out of a situation that leads to an outcome I want or am satisfied with. Sometimes, you fail. Sometimes you can't talk someone off a ledge or make 2 polar opposites come to an accord or compromise.. Sometimes you can't be the big hero and someone else gets to do it and sacrifice themself for the greater good.

If ME3 can have moments like that, moments of realism where you get what you want on one front but fail on another it makes the choices you make more impactful. Choices matter, but even in real life the choice that I may rarely lead to the outcomes I want and there are trade-offs everywhere.

Quarian/Geth are a great example. Let's say that I made a great case in ME2 that war is not the option. I can make that case and try to influence all the right people and I may even succeed. But that situation is a powder keg. It's only going to take a spark to unravel alot of what I did. And that spark might be out of my control and may lead down a path I didn't intend and lead to choices that I need to make even though I don't want to.

Which side would I support if forced to choose between the two? I honestly don't know. The largest known fleet in the galaxy vs. a machine race that could be either the footsoldiers of or a great bane to the Reapers. The ideal is to get them both, but I'd kind of like it if I had to choose and it be possible that even though my heart was in the right place I could make the wrong choice.

You seem to be the only one here who feels that way. I'm still on the fence, don't really know what to think.
Hoping for the best.

The script as it is assumes certain decisions were made in past games, but it is not complete and doesn't cover everything.  The genophage subplot alone depends on multiple variables from all three games.

Also, dem endings.

I dunno. Just for the record: no spoilers follow, just stuff I predict from what we know of ME / ME2. The only spoiler: the genophage-cure-mission will happen.

Does it matter if Wrex lives or not?
Most certainly not. Wreav will also go after the cure. Maybe some lines will be different, maybe you can't pick some choices or that particular mission will be harder - it doesn't matter.

Does it matter if you did Mordin's LM?
The cure still exists since it never got destroyed by Shepard's decision.

Does it matter if Mordin lives?
Could be related to Mordin's LM. Since Mordin tends to die in the suicide mission, NOT doing his LM before SM is a death sentence to him.
However, if he died we're most likely going to see his old assistant taking his place or some other Salarian working for Mordin earlier. The cure is still available.

Does it matter if the cure got destroyed?
Most likely not. Either because there was some kind of program keeping a backup or some scientists reconstructed the data - who knows. It will be available.

So your decisions won't have any influence on this particular mission with exception of some details like Mordin or the difficulty of that mission. At least you can make it easier or more pleasant if you kept Mordin alive and the data intact.

@CptData: Those flavor differences, however, are exactly what I was expecting and looked forward to. Additionally, the draft you read makes assumptions that certain events took place.

Of course you can still accomplish the mission; the plot demands it. However, HOW you get the job done depends on how you rolled in ME1 and ME2.

By being as complicated, ambiguous, and dangerous as the Illusive Man himself.  You'll think you've figured it out at one point, then suddenly--BAM!  Not what you thought at all.

It's twisted, and Cerberus is as nasty as ever, but there's still room to think TIM's intentions are correct.

Not so sure where all this "It's gonna be as bad as DA2" stuff is coming from. (DA2 wasn't that bad, imo) The script makes it look like it will be the best damn game of 2012. We are going to all laugh, cry and gasp through 50 hours of amazing content. Well, at least the ones who buy it are.
