I'll try to avoid spoilers.  :D

I'm running through on my first try at the game. Keeping my general opinions of the game to myself for a bit, I ran across something that surprised me a little.

I'm running 2 parallel games -- one with a mage and one with a fighter. with a few exceptions, my wizard-lead party is considerably tougher (I think?) than my warrior-lead one. The warrior doesn't  have as much money, has a much harder time with tougher foes. I've had a few combats where the fighter had to re-load 4 or 5 times while the mage's party never had any member even fall.

I've seen some posts that mages are supposed to be overpowered, and I think I'd mostly agree.
But I was wondering what people's opinions are on how the classes and races stack up?
And whether my instincts are right? Like are Dwarfs tougher as fighters than humans, etc.

Also, how useful are rogues? I'm just not seeing it?

mages are easily the most powerful and will always be in single player games as the ai can't think and will just die by your fingers. And i'm told arcane/blood mages get to be insane in all aspects of the game.

if this game allowed multiplayer i would assume a dwarf templar would rape any mage. Dwarfs are excellent vs casters thanks to their magic resistant i seen people write they gotten 50% spell resist on top of elemental resists.

Rogues are very useful, they excel at sniping out mages if they go ranged builds, they got a good constant dps with little need for reposition them self every time monsters die to be able to hit the next mob that melee oriented fighters need to. they also got useful tools no other class have such as stealth and lock-pick.

My opinion is that all classes are perfectly fit in a single player RPG. The class bonus are rather minor so Its not like a Dwarf warrior can destroy a elf warrior just because of a bit more strength. And about how your fight save game seems to be less effective is because of your line up. I'm assuming you have the same line up, and the difference are your PC, then thats why the fighter is having a hard time. If you have 2 warrior, and a mage, then your probably not doing enough burst damage, and your tanks got out numbered and out flanked. If you have 2 mage and a warrior, then you are dealing high burst damage with possbile healing or crowd control, giving your warrior to cut down foes knowing his flanks are secure. Although the line up would get destroyed by any mob that have some kind of anti magic, or your tank fail to pull aggro.

So to conclude its more about the line up you choose and how you plan your attack.

well, ive tried to vary the party make up, but there are only so many NPCs.Maybe that's the real issue -- that I haven't found one of the magic-y NPCs yet. or maybe my dog can cast :D

I take it you're pretty early in the game then.

It should be noted that rogues really come into their own as you get more talents... Level 10+ if built right. They can do some of the best damage in the game, even out doing mages as far as single target goes.

It is hard if you're missing a character role, though.
