From 5 different games. :)
So If you would choose the best 5 missions in History of Video Games, what would you choose?

1. Bespin Final - Jedi Knight II
Even at the first of this level you are surprised by a dark Jedi who falls from the roof and fights you. At the End you fight with Tavion and she is so tough.
Image IPB

2. Invading Freedon Nadd's Tomb [Dxun Mission] - Knights of the Old Republic II

3. 2nd Last mission [Korriban] - Jedi Academy
There is lots of drama, tens of Jedi fighting with tens of sith!

4. Attacking Collector Base - Mass Effect 2

5. Hoover Dam's Invasion - Fallout: New Vegas

They're all from 2000s, I didn't find 90s games that interesting.

These must be so epic too. I've played both games but I can't remember those missions or a mission from strategy game in general. They're too similar to each other. :?

Before BioWare and KotOR I don't play RPGs at all. Almost a pure RTS/TBS player who occassionally plays shooter/vehicle simulation (Flight Simulator; Mechwarrior).

And yes, these kind of games are not about any specific missions.

Edit: But you should remember Eye of the Storm, the last mission of the original StarCraft. It's where Tassadar (nice Templar dude) went supercritical and kamikazed his uber-Carrier into the Zerg Overmind, after a long and exhausting battle alongside his buddies Zeratul (cool Dark Templar dude) and Raynor (Human space cowboy).

For different reasons in no order.
. Oblivion: The Ultimate Heist (this mission has it all)
. Fallout New Vegas: Bleed me Dry (ZOMG Legendary Deathclaw).
: Witcher: Heat of the day. (<3 you baww you lose)
. Halflife2: Anticitizen One. (Dog!)
This next mission is minor in DLC but has a history.
. Fallout 3: The Krivbeknih book. (Starts with random notes, leads you to a spooky building, and continues into DLC)

1. A Paragon of Her Kind/Anvil of the Void (Dragon Age: Origins) - One of the greatest missions I've ever played. My journeys through the Deep Roads, experiences in the Dead Trenches (poor Hespith...), and the grand finale with Branka and Caridin will remain with me for a long time to come.

2. Our Benefactors/Dark Energy (Half-Life 2) - Another one of the more memorable missions I've played - seeing the fate "our benefactors" had in store for humanity, climbing my way to the top of the Citadel for a final confrontation with Breen, and tossing Combine guards around like ragdolls along the way was pure awesomesauce.

3. Korriban (Knights of the Old Republic) - Easily the best Star Map planet out of the whole lot, I always save it for last so I can select all of the special "Revan only" options during the conversations. Makes for a fun and ironic experience, especially if you go dark side with your character.

4. Magus' Castle (Chrono Trigger) - I'll never forget the first time I played this game... the build-up towards the confrontation with Magus was intense. After traveling back and forth through time just preparing to face him, you then have to ascend this creepy castle and fight countless minions before facing the warlock himself in one of my favorite boss battles ever. Good stuff.

5. City in the Sky (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) - This is probably my favorite dungeon in the entire series. I just love the setting, the music, and the huge dragon battle atop a tower during a thunderstorm. It's the very definition of "epic." I wonder if Skyward Sword can top it?

1) Bespin (SW: Jedi Outcast) - I second this. You get to play in a  iconic location from the films as a badass Jedi fighting Sith left and right. And the boss fight with Tavion was epic though often difficult.

2) The Star Forge (SW: KOTOR) - Much like Return of the Jedi's epic finale on the Death Star, the final showdown between Revan and Malak rivals that of Luke and Vader.

3) Suicide Mission (Mass Effect 2) - I thought nothing could top the final fight on the Citadel in ME1. Guess I was wrong.

4) An Appointed Time ( Red Dead Redemption) - The whole time John Marston was in Mexico, we all felt like we were in our own Spaghetti Western. This final mission was a culmination of all that was great in Nuevo Paradiso.

5) The Battle of Denerim (Dragon Age Origins) - From storming the gates to finally facing the Archdemon, Bioware let us participate in our own heroic fantasy.

1) The train sequence in Uncharted 2. I find it a pleasure every time I reach this part. My epic meter hasn't found anything close to this. From the moment Drake jumps on the train to when he shoots the gas canister and sends the whole place into oblivion.

2) And The Truth Shall Set You Free from Red Dead Redemption. horacethegray said the one in mexico was most epic but my hat goes to the seige at Dutch's camp in the mountains. The gatling gun battle and the horse ride. Even the way you finally confront Dutch just screams epic.

3) The Scarecrow segments in Batman: Arkham Asylum. I haven't played City yet so I can't go there but for the first game the Scarecrow has great psychological moments that turn the dark knight literally into a child.

4) The Final Battle in Dragon Age Origins. The final face off with the Archdemon with so many possible ways to go about this its a treasure to behold.

5) Lair of the Shadow Broker. Everything about this is epic in every way. The psudo-crime scene investigating. The Asari spectre pretending to be your ally. The bombing of the plaza. VANGUARD BATTLE! Fighting on the broker's ship. And the showdown with the broker himself.

1 - The opera in Final Fantasy III. Sneaking Celes into the play and then watching her sing as the performance culminates in an attack by Ultros. Then meeting the dashing Setzer and getting an airship.

2 - The quest to depower, then defeat Yaga-Shura in Throne of Bhaal. Questing through a rotting haunted forest, then a fiery forge, and finally facing an army with a handful of stupidly powerful badasses. That was the climax of the BG games for me. It was more epic than the final battle.

3 - Any quest where I get to do a double or triple cross to screw someone over. There are too many games with these sort of quests to count.

4 - The final area of NiGHTS: Into Dreams. I got a nice warm fuzzy feeling watching the kids find their courage and fly on their own. It was an epic final mission in a way most don't try to be.

5 - The Summer Islands quest in a Dance with Rogues. I liked how Valine incorporated character interaction into a classic dungeon crawl. Most games suspend that sort of thing until reaching a critical story moment. ADwR got to let me know two NPCs with several options for not only completing the adventure, but deciding how my character would address her relationship with them.

1) Ilos - Mass Effect: maybe not as epic as the Virmire mission or the final mission on the Citadel, but Ilos always makes me melancholic and gives me a sense of urgency in stopping Sovereign.

2) Suicide Mission - Mass Effect 2: no need to explain. LotSB would be a really close second.

3) Malachor V - KotOR2: I put this because it's the first mission that comes to my mind when I think about the game; it's far from perfect, but I still loved the finale. There's a lot I love about KotOR2 though: Atris' fall, Kreia's teachings, the civil war on Onderon, the tomb of Nadd etc...

4) Pain and Suffering - Max Payne: the final level, the end of a great journey. Pretty much every level in Chapter 3 is epic, but nothing gives the sense of satisfacion that putting down that helicopter does.

5) Atlantis - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis: not really a mission, because it's a whole level in an adventure game, but I love getting to that part in the game: the final confrontation with Kerner and the desctuction of Atlantis are some of the best scenes in video games for me.

Full Throttle - Assemble the Bike, and Ramp it to victory. One of the most memorable moments in the game.

Conker's Bad Fur Day - Infiltrating the Bank... through a matrix parody.

Mother 3 - Climbing New Pork City. Epic, in a comedic sort of way.

Rock Band 2 - Endless Songlist 2. That's a mission that requires serious skill and dedication, particularly for those choosing hard or higher.

Guitar Hero III - Beat the devil, via a guitar duel... playing the devil went down to georgia.

Warcraft III - Twilight of the Gods. Watching the Burning Legion advance relentlessly and destroy all your allies' bases and then move on to yours is awesome. I felt so relieved when the timer finally ran out.

I could now go name a bunch of Bioware titles, but you've all played those games as well.

1. Collector Base - ME2 (The potential losses and the *lets be honest* pretty decent dialogue made the last hour or so just awesome)
2. The Lich King - WoW (His story took almost 8 years to conclude, and he's one of the most memorable characters in gaming history)
3. The Elite Four - Pokemon Red/Blue (When I was 6...this was the most epic thing ever.)
4. Berlin - CoD 1
5. Operation Overlord - MoH: Allied Assault

In no particular order:

1. Bioshock 2 - Inner Persephone: The final part of the game was really exciting to play the first time and still gets me going, Delta and Eleanor make their escape from Rapture chased all the way by Dr. Lamb and her "Family" some excellent moments and suprises during this made this one of my favourite missions in any game.

2. Mirrors Edge - Kate: My favourite chapter in the game. You spent much of this chapter being chased and that's what makes this game fun. The chase scenes. It has an excellent puzzle area where you need to find your way up a huge scaffold which has the player on edge as every move brings them close to falling. The climax of the chapter sees a race to the bottom of a building with riot cops in pursuit. Exciting stuff.

3. Dragon Age - Nature Of The Beast: No matter how many times i play this quest i never get tired of it. The whole curse storyline and the mysterious Witherfang just made me want to learn more as the quest went on. The battles through the forrest were fun and meeting some of the characters that inhabit it and the climax really feels like it pays off no matter what route you take at the end.

4. Mass Effect 2 - Overlord: I really loved playing this DLC it was just exciting and had variety in gameplay. Yeah the Hammerheads tendency to die in a few seconds was irritating but the driving sections were great for the cool scenery and the indoor sections just built tension as you get close to the A.I and learn more of the way it was created until the brilliant final battle and ending to the mission. Not often do i sit back after a DLC and reflect in the way this one made me it was just such a touching ending.

5. Mass Effect - Noveria: I really like this mission a lot it has great build up as you try to bash your way through company politics uncovering corruption and learning more of what your enemy has been doing there fighting angry Rachni and coming face to face with a Rachni Queen and of course confronting Benezia. The build up and the pacing of this mission makes it enjoyable to me.

The neutral/happy ending to that is so sad, but beautifully done though.

In no particular order.

1) Virmire (Mass Effect) The scenery, the Wrex confrontation, the Kaiden/Ashley choice, meeting Sovereign, the talk with Saren, and hold the line speech, it was just the best mission in either game to me.

2) Paragon or her Kind/Anvil of the Void (DA Origins): I look forward to this mission everytime I play the game, I usually save it until a weekend when I can do it all in one sitting. It was like the sun hurt your eyes when you finished because you had been underground so long. Hard, tough, resilient, just like dwarves.

3) Underground Ruins (Xenosaga 3): The boss fights against friends and foes (Telon, Shion) the music, the ending movie. I just love this game, completely saved that series after the debacle that was Xenosaga 2.

4) Chains of Promathia (FF XI): Only played one MMO in my life, and never again. But this story and more so the missions were just awesome in every way. Challenging, rewarding, just a ton of fun.

5) Star Forge (KOTOR): The climax to an awesome games whether you were trying to rescue Bastilla or walking the dark side with her. Then the final confrontation with Revan.

I may change this once I think about it more, but for now those are the first ones that came to mind.

It really was great, It's one of the few game endings i actually had a little tear in my eye over. Eleanor's voice actress did a great job of that last monologue.

I would second the final battle in Homeworld. Epic lazer death going everywhere. Although the Gardens of Kadesh get a honorable mention too
Final mission in Freelancer, a real hair ball
Final suicide mission in Hostile Waters, beautiful end to a beautiful game
Pegasus Bridge in the very first COD game. I was exhausted after this

Call of Duty games have good campaigns in general (except two last ones) and very memorable missions.

I consider the last mission of World at War, another epic experience:
