Dragon Age comes with some great cutscene tools. Is anyone looking to use them for a machinima project?

Eventually yes, definitely. But first I need to learn how to use it all. I made a quick little test scene but i had some issues with face fx. Still playing around at the moment.

How about Bioware holding a small machinima contest?

Machinima is a movie technique creation which uses videogame engines as start point, instead of long 3D renders.. people just record their scenes trying to animate characters the best possible way and make their own VO.
There are hundreds of them, started the movement at machinima.com, with engines like Unreal, Halo, WoW, CoD, Sims... It's supossed that ith the toolset provided with DA and the power it has with cinematics... someone would do one
I was once very impressed with one machinima with the nwn1 engine, called BloodSpell -> http://www.bloodspell.com/film/list/

I can't wait to use the toolset to create machinimas and cutscenes, Craig. But right now I'm waiting for a new version of the toolset so I can sink my teeth into it without screwing up the main campaign.

The cutscene and conversation editors are amazing. I personally plan to use those in coordination with a module, but I can see people making some great free-standing machinimas with DA. The way you can manipulate lighting, setting, camera angles, expression, etc. is more detailed than most games that I'm familiar with. I've figured out the basics of the cutscene controls fairly quickly. Making a scene that works cinematically will take more time
.
As long as you delete the override files in the packages folder as described in the main toolset folder, you shouldn't have any problem with the main campaign. Of course, if you forget to do that . . . I've had to go back to older saves a lot, but the allure of the toolset overcomes my fear of savegame corruption.

Have a smaller machinima project on schedule just to get used to the toolset.
I look forward to see the first machinima films released.

I already did. Weeks ago. It's more of a parody. (it's SFW) and the old man is a german comedian/host named Karl Dall.
