That is the biggest mistake the production team for Dragon age has ever done, to not continue the wardens story in my opinion.

The last insult is to completley ignoring the warden in the next game.

Since DAO bioware had said the game is about Thedas not about the warden, not about hawke and not about morrigan, is about Thedas, they pointed that out last year aswell and this years and if am not mistaken they posted about this a week ago.

Don't worry. Skyrim is due in two days and we can forget this mess has ever happened.

It's kind of like kicking over the sandcastle. They made a bad sequel and now we can only hope that new games arrive and everyone forgets about Dragon Age 2 and the Dragon Age franchise.

Or we can trust in a lead designer that doesn't even make RPG's to keep the franchise afloat.

what are you talking about? DA2 was very much an RPG maybe it wasn't to you but it was one, it had stats and skills to level up, it had a story that you guided your character through.

Not really, it had rpg elements but it was not a rpg. Railroading towards the same ending regardless players choises was a good indicator for it.

ROFLMAO!
You mean, Bioware's biggest mistake with Dragon Age was not doing it the way YOU want it. Let me guess, because of this you are withdrawing your "significant" shares in the company? Pfff!

If they added the warden in every dragon age game people would complain like dogs about it there is no win win situation so leaving the warden out or making 2 char creations at the start so you could customise canon warden

I think I'll live with not continuing my Warden's adventures, love 'em though I did.
What I won't be able to live with is not knowing where Morrigan's damn portal went. I refuse to be the baby-daddy that time forgot.

Doesn't mean we won't see them again, If I could find the thread I even read one of the devs hinting that Hawke and the Warden can meet at somepoint, possibly hinting at a future DLC.

Which is funny, since the DA games and BioWare games usually are noted for the PCs and non player characters, not their world building. Its through the characters and PCs that people seem to get involved in their games. The characters and player characters are what makes up Thedas and what makes people give a damn about anything in their games.

While BioWare seems intent on doing a yearly roster change  for DA, there shouldn't be anything stopping them from bringing back an old PC- having Hawke, the Hero of Ferelden, or the Orlesian Warden come back for another game as PC, which  wouldn't necessarily mandate every game feature them as the PC. If it makes sense for the story they're trying to tell, I'd much prefer they bring back old PCs instead of trying to resolve old plot lines started by old PCs with new PCs who have no stake in their resolution.

I agree.

Yeah, it's cool to meet a new protagonist, but him fixing the Warden's and Hawke's messes will be just dumb. But that's just my honest opinion.

At the very best, our warden would have his/her helm on, and not say a word to you. Other than that it is more likely to hear rumors about the character than anything else.

EXACTLY!!  I replayed my elf warden mage so many times to get the right ending I want, and saved at certain key points in case I changed my mind for a specific choice.

Plus DAII was basically only about Hawke and Kirkwall, which is just a little speck in all of Thedas.  The onyl thing that was about Thedas as a whole was the third act which gave rise to the Templar Mage war, but again that was only one act.  And the big promotional question when DAII was coming out was 'Who Is the Champion of Kirkwall'... well if Dragon Age is supposed to be about Thedas in general then why is that the big question for DAII?

If they could make a game that focused on just hawke and the hero of ferelden where you could play as either of them I would buy it immideatly.

DA2 felt to me at least as a dlc similair to "Lelianas song".

I would actually settle for a DLC at this point.  I mean in Origins we got that nice little 2 hour Origin story for the warden, we got to learn his story and we moved on.  For DAII almost the entirety of act 1 was about Hawke, and in act 2 it wasn't much better besides the tension between Kirkwall and the Qunari.

For me if they wanted to explain to us how the Templar/mage war started they didn't have to waste the sequel of the game of the year of 2009 to do it, they could have made another novel or two instead.  They did it in The Stolen Throne and they are doing it for Asunder.

My honest opinion if I was in charge of Bioware, DA3 protagonist is the Hero of Ferelden/Orlesian Warden again, DA4 protagonist Hawke again. That way both are satisfied, those who want change and those who want to keep their protagonist. I'd even go as far as making the prophecy that no matter how good DA3 will be, they will lose customers alone because of the fact that it doesn't feature the DA2/DA:O/DA:A protagonist. Because I think alot of people are just not interested in a new beginning every new game.

I don't understand why so many people are so caught up in nostalgia that they would compromise a previous story to try and relive it. If a previous character is in DA3 that is fine so long as they should be there. If they are dead or doing something else then don't put them in!!!! Players are likely to still feel an attachment to the warden and if they are in DA3, doing something the player doesn't like, the player is likely to be offended. It also ruins their own stories formed in their imagination over the past 5 years. Given the different situations (even dead) the warden could end up in I don't think he/she should be in it at all.

That ship has already sailed, though. I'm stunned that, after DA2, anyone is still surprised that the Warden isn't coming back as a PC. Surely that was obvious as soon as Hawke's existence was revealed? BioWare's statement that each game will have a new protagonist only confirms that Hawke won't be back for DA3 either.

Personally, I prefer having a new protagonist each game.

As an aside, have we been told when, in relation to DAO/DA2, DA3 is to take place?

Oy vey, it was made clear a few years back that Dragon Age was about Thedas in the Dragon Age, not just a single character.

I have to agree with this notion. I like the idea of Thedas as a setting in its entirety, not just the backdrop for a single hero's story. In my opinion, the "little things" that happen all around the player character during his journey in both DA:O as well as DA2 are an integral part of the world as a whole and help shape the stage by giving it more life, making it more believable and atmospheric.

That said, I would also consider the Blight/Darkspawn/Warden arc to be a pretty major aspect of the overall theme (as it was an event of importance to the entirety of Thedas) and as such I believe it should at least appear in further games, even if it's not the focus. This could range from legends and rumours amidst the peasantry to companions who have fought at the Warden's side in the final battle right up to a cameo appearance.

Bioware seems to like for its players to import old saves to sequels to help shape details of the background, so that cameo appearance could easily be a Warden that looks just like your player character from DA:O. And for people who don't have a save (or the game as a whole) on their HD, it will simply be a person in armour wearing a helmet, thus being somewhat anonymous (gender could then be decided in a dialogue option beforehand just like it worked for Revan in KotOR2). The only important thing would be to keep that cameo suitably vague as to not hint at a personality running counter to what the player originally had in mind. Maybe a speech or a formal meeting with some feudal lord where you just happen to catch a quick glimpse at the Warden before he/she slips out of sight ... ;)
