Hi everyone

After some investigation, we are able to provide further information regarding the Mass Effect 3 leaks this weekend:

Following the accidental public release of the internal beta, some information was extracted from game files that was then released on the internet.  That information was found in test entries in our database which represent rough notes on mission summaries from early story drafts.  These story outlines do not form the actual game script, and since most of these entries are from first-draft story documents, many of the elements will be different in the final game.  These simplified entries also do not represent the actual dialog, non-linearity, or interactive choices in the actual game.  In fact, the team is still hard at work writing and implementing final versions of storylines and dialog.

It should go without saying however that reading leaked Mass Effect 3 files - however out of date they may be - will likely spoil your experience in the game.  We ask that you join with us in keeping the BioWare Social Network spoiler-free, so that as many players as possible can discover the surprises and revelations of Mass Effect 3 in the game itself.

Original Post from Jesse Houston:
"Hello everyone!

As most of you know by now, this evening an accidental leak occurred of some early Mass Effect 3 beta code.  Microsoft has advised us that through human error at their end, content which was meant for internal beta testing was flagged incorrectly and released to individuals who had signed up for the beta of the Xbox Live dashboard update.  It has since been taken down and deactivated.

We’d like to stress that the leaked code is in a rough, unfinished state and was not meant for public release. The content is not final, and is not reflective of the quality of the finished, polished game due for release on March 6, 2012 (March 9 in Europe).

One feature that was present in this early build is a set of game play modes that are in development. In the beta code they are referred to as “action mode”, “story mode” and “RPG mode”. We want to stress that these features are still in the early stages of development and will receive considerable iteration and refinement. These modes are designed to give players an even finer degree of control over their game experience than ever before.  Whether it be someone who finds the combat difficult but wants to experience the amazing story, someone who wants to focus on the action and combat game play, or fans who want the rich, story-driven RPG Mass Effect experience they’ve come to love – Mass Effect 3 will support all of these options.  We’ll have more info in the days ahead!"

Hi guys,
I've spent a considerable amount of time going through this thread and removing overt spoilers. Please refrain from linking to or posting information from the leaked files in the general discussion area. This is a really unfortunate situation and I'm sorry for those of you who accidentally ran across things that may affect your enjoyment of the game or the months leading up to it. Bans have been issued for those we have deemed are posting information out of malice or twisted gratification.

I personally have not read the leaked files and so when it comes to editing content, if what's being discussed isn't in ME1 or ME2, I'm assuming it's from the leak (sorry if I deleted your fan fiction or something lol). Anything I label as a "spoiler" doesn't denote whether it will actually appear in the game, so don't take my removing your content as validation of anything.

As a Community Manager, I only have a small glimpse of what goes on inside the walls of the studio, however, everyone has been working extremely hard on ME3 (psh, it's 10:30pm my time and even I'm still in the office) and the tiny look I got at the game is making the wait until March incredibly difficult. The amount of thought that's going into player agency is astounding and the dialogue trees I've seen alone reflect that. I wish you could really see people behind this game, they're a brilliant bunch.

Like I said, I don't know what's in those leaked files (other than what I've deleted here) or what's going to be in the final game, but no matter what it is or how much is true in those files, it's only part of your story. A story that is so grand it cannot be contained in one script (one reason that BioWare didn't submit to the WGA because the game can't be judged that simply). No game is perfect, but I have no doubt this one will be incredible.

So again, please refrain from posting potential ME3 "spoilers" here. PM me or get my attention on Twitter if you have any questions or need to report someone who does not respect this request. Be swell.

I should go,
Jessica

P.S. Chris uses this little guy Image IPB... I feel the need to use one too. Perhaps Image IPB will do.
