I ain't totally against catering to fan favourites. But Tali & Garrus got their share of pandering already.

EDIT: REMOVED SPOILERS

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how two of the only characters to have major roles in both the earlier games aren't pushed off to the sidelines in the third. After all, since ME3 is the "perfect starting point", they should just introduce two new characters instead, and dump the only people who have remained at Shepard's side throughout the trilogy thus far.
Who needs fan favourites anyway?

If those two were not squadmates in ME3, can you imagine what the tali-mancers and Gar-Bears would do?  *insert most horrific thing of your imagination* oh keela...

That's like saying that Frodo had enough time in the limelight in The Fellowship of the RIng and The Two Towers and replacing him with Pippin for The Return of the King. It's just silly.

Can't really see Garrus' level of story involvement as on-par with Frodo's.

Please tell me you don't think Tali & Garrus are the main character of the franchise like Frodo is lololololol

Well Garrus has been a member of the crew since ME1, just booting him out in favor of people who didn't join back up in ME2 would be weird.

Not the main character, but they're certainly important members of the crew - having been a part of it for a long time.

Sam then. Sam is always at Frodo's side, just like Tali and Garrus. Imagine if Frodo decided to replace Sam and climb Mount Doom with Faramir instead. It would be ridiculous.

There we go - I should have made that comparison right away. It would be awesome if Faramir was there in addition to Sam, but no one can replace him.

You're right, he's more like Aragorn. If Aragorn had Gandalf's wizard powers.

Someone keeps changing the story. First Frodo, now Sam. But I missed the point in which Tali & Garrus received plot armor in ME2 because BioWare intended them to be Shep's bestest friends and companions from the beginning to an end.

Back on the old boards, before ME2 launched, Casey Hudson stated that he was "saving" the VS for the third game.

He was saving them for this?

I know right?

Changing the story? Someone just changed it to a more apt comparison.

And for many Shepard's they will have been.

They didn't. If you got them killed, you receive a sub-par version of the game. A Return of the King in which Sam does not appear as he got eaten by Shelob the spider, if you will.

Plot armor?

They can die just as easily as everyone else.

Except Miranda with her dialogues.

Plot armor would be a more fitting description for the VS' situation, since the plot actually demands those particular characters' preservation for a future point in time.

As you said yourself, those conflicts in ME3 can probably play out fine without Tali and Garrus.

Does that make them worthless? No, because they have individual characters people actually like and some situations can play out differently depending on those characters' survival.

Hey, I love Mordin and Wrex as much as the next guy (they're on par with Garrus and Tali for me), but they're not exactly the kind of people to have time to just hang around Shepard's ship all the time. Wrex is uniting the clans on Tuchanka and Mordin is a genius scientist who would probably do more good working in a lab not constantly on the move.

He didn't say they had plot armor - he said that they weren't as important because they didn't have plot armor.

But the point is they can't put every squadmate on the ME3 team. And if they can only have a certain amount, it makes sense to include the ones who've been through the most with Shepard. They can't please everyone, but by including Tali and Garrus they're probably keeping more people happy than if they had chosen any other two squadmates instead.

I think it's time for all us old timers to admit the obvious: Bioware hates us, and wants us to go away.

Faramir climbing Mount Doom alongside Frodo and Sam would be pretty rad...

Anyway, don't wanna spoil myself. Promised Mac directly that I wouldn't, even, lol. Out like a trout.

Pretty much this.

If Bioware are going to keep "pandering" then they should do so for the two more popular characters to appeal to the most fans.

I for one don't give a rat's butt hole if Tali/Garrus are back full time.

It's something ELSE I don't like.
