Oh you mean the war they STARTED with no prior signs of hostility? that one? It's so hard having fired the first shot then getting your as shanded to you in return when you threatened someone's survival.  The Quarians sent out an order to ELIMINATE ALL THE GETH, so the geth fought back and overwhlemed them and they did not surrender. They left and the Geth LET them leave and cleaned up the mess. do the quarians try for peace? Never. they always attack. I wonder why the geth tried to wipe them out.....

Folks, I realise it's been a trying week, but could we please refrain from trying to tear each other down? We are all fans of an amazing game series. If we can't discuss our differences without mudslinging, then we should stick to focusing on what we have in common.

I have, and it's character assassination at it's finest.

Certain characters would never do that, especially after the whole ME2 thing.

Equal treatment how? Do you support a 20-man squad? Or are you a proponent of the "rotating cast, no-one is permanent" scenario? The fact is, Bioware has to pick favourites, and it appears the favourites they have chosen are Tali, Garrus and Liara. You may not agree with these choices, but be aware that the choice had to be made.

oh its possible.  give us a choice who is on the available grounside mission squad, and who gets to participate from a distance.  equal dialogue recorded for all, though depending on whom you pick for your squad for any single playthrough, you might not hear that dialogue.  no favoritism.  no choices that are so skewed in one direction that chosing anything else will require acting stupider then chosing grunt for a fire team leader.  no character assasinations, no making less popular characters into tiny cameo's/whipping boys/girls.  no confrontations that make you facepalm and wonder if someone smoked a little too much of the "good stuff" when writing it.

Do you know how much work would go into writing full dialogue for a 20-person squad? If they did it, they'd have to cut corners somewhere else. They had to choose between a small amount of dialogue for a large squad, or a large amount of dialogue for a small squad. They chose the latter, which in my mind was a good decision.

I know. 

and I don't know, not doing multiplayer would have been a reasonable sacrifice for more single player squadmate dialogue/options.

picking obvious favorites, all the while promising that all LI's will get equal treatemnt and have equal importance? not so good.

No, but it's not too much to ask them to listen and try to understand the situation instead of only focusing on the bad part of the story as if nothing else exists.

First off, I appreciate that you're using capital letters as I have a difficulty reading with my refractive errors, but it's not that necessary.

Second off, way to trail off there.

Are you honestly telling me that if something like the First Contact War had ended differently and the turians had declared a full scale war on the humans and wiped out so many of them until there's nothing but the equivalent of a small country left, no human alive would have any hatred towards the turians?

Can we please not resort to childish name calling and trash talking?
I love Ashley and even though Horizon (and some of the spoilers) have done a lot to upset me I'm still going to keep her as my love interest because she remains my favorite and my preference. However I can't really blame people who might view the situation differently and I certainly am not interested in trash talking other people's favorite characters as some kind of means of defence.

There was a time when I used to do this as well, walls of text and the like, but I'm just weary of the fighting and the arguing and so sick of it all. Really.
I'm prepared to adopt a live and let live situation, who cares if there exist people who don't like my favorite character? She's still in Mass Effect 3 and she can still be romanceable, I'm still going to get MY version of Mass Effect 3 (However difficulty) so who cares how other people choose to play their version of it?
I know there are obnoxious Tali and Garrus fans out there who lash out at us and insult us but honestly if we lash out like this is just makes us as bad as them. It makes both sides look juvenile and colors the opinions of the respective fanbases.
And I know a lot about vocal minorities coloring the web's perspective of a fanbase, because I am a Halo fan. Christ if anyone knows what it's like to be unanimously hated due to the actions of only some fans, it's us.
I'd rather not see that happen here as well. I like Ashley AND Garrus AND Tali. I wasn't aware that I now have to pick and choose between them. While it is true that it's annoying that Garrus and Tali get more screentime then the VS and that the VS's plot line is decidedly more negative, the Garrus and Tali fanbase didn't cause that and there's no better way to lose the sympathetic light then to attack people who had nothing to do with it.
I'm angry about this whole thing too, but I'm not angry at the fans or angry at the characters. Mostly I'm just angry at the situation, the difference being that I'm not resorting to name calling over it.
Seriously I'm sick of seeing this every single time I open up this site, Team Dextro versus Team VS. I'm sick to death of it.

Can we please just all try to be civil and get along?

The geth aren't truly sentient, that's the thing. You get enough programs together and they can start feigning it, but geth don't really have sentience. The quarians tried to wipe them out because they were already skirting Council law by creating them and they didn't want to be drawn into a war because of it.

Well said, V-rex. Well said.  (Snipped for length, but I agree with everything you said.)  I love all of Mass Effect's characters too, and I only wish Bioware had enough resources to make all of the squaddies permanent with long, intricate personal storylines.

on the contrary if you bring up something I agree with, I'll agree.

what would oyu do when your life is on the line? They fought for their continued existence and made sure it stayed that way by killing all the quarians who were trying to eliminate them. it's simple logic and a survival instict in an AI which we've seen plenty of times in Mass Effect.

 There is a big difference between sentience and sapience. Sentience can easily be seen as animals but Sapience are self aware beings. Geth as a whole are Sapient no matter how you see it. Even Legion sees itself as all Geth. There is no feigning sapience when you have enough intelligence to not only defend yourself against an attack but enough to retaliate against a society that has a actual interstellar empire and a military to defend it then you are using intelligence beyond the capability of anything that is unaware of itself. Hell when the Geth simply asked if they had a soul pretty much showed they were self aware. If the Geth truly grasp the concept of understanding and even revenge (see what happens when you choose Tali's side in the Tali Legion fight) shows sapience.

You can dislike the Geth a lot but don't be blatantly dim and say they aren't even self aware since that has beaten into our heads for 2 games straight.
