Oh I have a friend that played through it once completely, tried to replay but could never complete the game a second time. Also, in regards to the supposed linear plot, remember that every decision across the trilogy branches exponentially with every choice by the player. I think Bioware underestimated the sheer size of decisions at the end of the trilogy even when their games are usually 30 hrs in length to complete anyway. I just hope in the final script that they will make the major decisions count and not waste time on side missions. I would prefer the main story to be amazing than a side quest that started in ME1 be amazing but only lasting 10 minutes.Sgt Stryker wrote...

Just add a few more lines on the side and you'll have the plot structure of the Witcher 2
That's because making a plotline where decisions matter is extremely easy, you only have to accept that it's impossible to see 100% of the story in a single playtrhough.
No one read those "choose your own story" books as a kid? It's mostly the same. And those books made it in less than 100 pages.
I think you may on to something here. Maybe for some unknown reason BioWare is intentionally avoiding that by having linear stories? Do they not realize that a sizable part of their audience plays through the game more than once? I'm not sure why anyone in their right mind would do that, because IMO, doing one playthrough and shelving the game afterwards is just a waste of money.

I think. Most of it is unintelligble to me. And the only thing I actually want to know, namely who all the squadmates (aside from the surviving ME1 and James, who we already know) and whether you can freely choose them I can't seem to find here.

And that's the reason why, when you want to make a trilogy, you need to write down the whole story before starting.
If you have all the paths you are going to make at least described since the begining, then there's no problem with decisions. You know what are the key ones, and what they imply, and what are the details, and the amount of possible paths never "grows exponentially".

I gotta disagree, there, Sugarcube. This reads like bad fanfiction. The Chakwas scene was melancholy and heartfelt, it had gravitas. This is so fanservicey it's not even funny.

That would be ideal for me too, but I don't mind having other squadmates helping out on certain missions. It's a galactic war after all.
I just hope I can keep them both alive. Looks like in ME3, plot armor is gone.

You haven't seen half of it.
There are references out the ass in this file when it comes to the squad and their lives.

You've played it, then? Maybe you could PM me the full details (since, you know, spoilers). It won't take long, since I guess there won't be any variation between the options.IanPolaris wrote...
Except they don't and that's the point. The Rachni Arc is a prime example.

If you've read both sets of spoilers then you know exactly what I mean, so don't be cheeky. Your choice in ME1 doesn't matter at all, and the game LIES to you in ME2.
-Polaris
Can you PM me with the details? Thanks.

They're not retcons. A retcon undoes something that is previously established with no justification.
These are treated as story developments. Even Leliana would be one if her ressurection is explained. They're cheap developments that make your choices meaningless, but developments all the same.
Then it's a retcon. If an important choice is made irrelevant, then it's a retcon at least in my book. Either way it disrspects the player's prior choice and is contrary to the promises that we were given.
-Polaris
A retcon involves an undoing of what has already happened, so that it did not actually happen or happened in a way significanty different from what we were originally shown. Lucas changing SW:ANH so that Greedo fires first is a retcon.
