As other posters have said, there are files in ME2 that are RADICALLY different from what happened in-game.

Please point me to one. So far all I've seen are some emails and a bunch of stuff relating to DLC characters.

Well for one, the intro was supposed to be played as Legion who works together with Liara to recover Shepard's body.

See, this is a perfect example. The general plot point remains the same (Shepard dies), but everything else is completely different.

Mordin used to be Biotic, there was a confrontation between Mordin and Grunt...
These are the ones that I recall

So they swapped Legion for Feron and moved it from the main game into the LotSB DLC, and otherwise it was exactly the same? That's not much of a difference IMO. Certainly not a "RADICAL" one.

You play as Feron who works together with Liara to recover Shepard's body in your version of LotSB?

And what a lot of us more cautious types thought was the was...was the case. Thanks for the clarification, Chris.

The point is that it really isn't different.  They simply took a deleted sequence and allowed you to insert one squaddie instead of Feron.

I think the question of DLCs should have been leaked....that is the really mystery. Will it have new armors, weapons, missions, or (wait for it) characters?

Well, they're hardly going to point out which parts are accurate and which parts aren't, are they?

No, that would indeed be asking too much, but if some of the most contraversial/poorly recieved parts of the leaked files are wrong (such as the VS confrontation), then BW would do themselves a lot of good by saying so.  The fact they haven't tells me that the leaked files are probably correct about this and many other problematic things.

-Polaris

...Wait, you want a company about to release a new title to actually SPOIL what is or isn't in the game this close to release?

They aren't saying anything because (duh) that's likely company policy.  Don't use the Argument from Ignorance fallacy to try and claim that simply because they aren't saying anything means they have something to hide.

All of which fall under the category of "details".  In the case of the Mordin/Grunt confrontation, it's a simple matter of deletion and it doesn't affect the story.  Same with Mordin's biotic.  The only real difference is that Mordin can't be used as a biotic shield during the long walk.

Fallacy or not, that is what people will think.  If Bioware didn't have something to hide regarding some of the more contraverial leaked information, then why are they?  That IS how people think.

Well leaving out the now infamous VS situation would also be a simple case of deletion wouldn´t it ?
In fact removing the whole arc and letting the VS remain in the party the whole game would hardly change the script or story line in any major way and could be considerd a detail.

I won't speak for onelifecrisis, but I am dead serious.  There really isn't any meaningful difference.  Subbing one character for another with the same lines is not really a change let alone a 'radical' one.

I didn't read the spoilers but as I've been hearing all the complaining I find it strange that people dont understand just how much stories change through the writing process. As a screenwriter I can say that quite honestly even a very detailed outline used on an early draft can end up bearing very little resemblance to the final product. I would expect this to be especially true in a game that is nonlinear and based on player decisions and many many variables built up over two previous games.

You guys also said the same thing when something like this happen with DAO and DA2, you also denied that Legion and Garrus where squadmates when that leak came out. Sorry Bioware but you can't fool me. Sure most of the stuff I read will be different or changed but certain big things will not change. I understand you can't tell the truth Biwoare but instead of telling us lies how about you make sure stuff like this does not happen? This has happen so far for three games, and you also had MoA leaked.

Sure that's true for the writing process but that process was almost certainly done for ME3 about the time when ME2 was released (since this was a preplanned triology).  It had to be in order to give the Voice Actors and programmers time enough to flesh out the script.

You know that they said some of the things are true and Spoilers right? How the hell is that a lie?

Because company policy is to avoid any and all spoilers of their work prior to release.  The fact they're following policy shouldn't come across as odd or suspicious when that's pretty much any and all companies do.  And it doesn't matter what people think, fallacious arguments don't make them right.

Believing something is true simply because there's no evidence to say it's not true is faulty logic.  And a lot of people thinking that way doesn't make that logic more valid either, that's an Argument From The Majority (basically, the premise that, if enough people hold a point of view, however invalid that view is, that said view is true).

Oh come off it. The joke is you thinking that crap like that constitutes a RADICAL plot difference. So a couple of disposable squaddies got moved to DLC and some confrontations and emails didn't make the final cut? So what? Such things hardly constitute a rewrite of the central plot, or even one of the non-central story arcs within it.

So because they mention the Feron thing in the DLC (you never even get to see it, let alone play it), then the story of the intro isn't different?

They mention a lot of things in ME. First contact war, krogan rebellions, skyllian blitz, etc. Are you saying if ME was a game set on the krogan rebellions, the game wouldn't be any different storywise?

That's all well and good (and even correct) when discussing logical constructs in philosophy or rhetoric.  That's not how people think, however, and if you want to do damage control, you have to address how people think.  I am sure there probably is company policy, but companies can (and do) change policies or even make exceptions under certain emergency conditions and IMHO this qualifies as a PR emergency.

J.K. Rowling wrote the last paragraph of the 7th book before she even started the second book. Do you honestly expect us to believe she had everything else penned out just because she knew how it would end? This is a stated FIRST DRAFT of ME3, that means it was made after production started, so before the VGAs. if they're still nailing down story details now then how the hell does it make any sense that everything else has been set in stone since before ME2 launched.

I really hope some of the stuff in there stays... There's a really powerful scene which at first sounded unavoidable (good!) but now I'm hearing it might not be (hmm, not as sure), so I'll be really disappointed if I don't get it on my playthrough >.<

You're reffaring to what I talked about earlier, correct?

No. important is (unless the whole thing gets changed ) that Shepard goes to the location and that Kai Leng then abducts "stupidplotpoint" .
The VS does not feature in any important way in the scene at all and the scene does not change if you remove the VS since they do nothing important for the plot here. Cutting their involment in that story line has no bigger impact on ME3 than cutting the Hear´Dalis romance had on BG2. (By the way in the first draft of that game Imoen always died at the Spellkeep).

That's mostly true for that particular scene, but *stupid plot point* turning VS against Shepard because of *stupid plot point* seems to be pretty central...at least the corruption of *stupid plot point*...which also invalidates a critical choice you had to make at the end of ME1.
