I know you can but Marian's voice is soo perfect for default 1 & 2, I always go for default 2 myself, the scar makes her seem a bit more sexy

It's not a scar, it's Nutella. Get it right.

Hhmm it does look like a scar if you look at it differently, but I am thinking of writing a Merril and MArian story so I'm putting it as a scar, plus in Dragon Age Legends it is classed as a scar :)

Do I need to link you the truth? I think I do! :innocent:

I only hate Garrett Hawke, him and Merrill just makes him seem like a weird pervy creeper...

How exactly is Hawke "a weird pervy creeper"? He seems nothing like that to me.

It's really just default Hawke's facial expression when he says the charming line "I don't mind. You're adorable when you're flustered."

That comes off as a bit.... rapey.

But it only applies to default Hawke saying the purple lines. Otherwise, there's nothing pervy or creepy about it.

She's quite funny. Reminds me a lot of a person I know well IRL.

My opinion on the Dalish Elves is fairly neutral. Their story is interesting, but their elven superiority complex just pisses me off.

Well, yeah...that sucks.

But I like them in general because they refuse to submit to human rule and culture, for starters.   Also, elven history is a complete mystery and the Dalish are the people who live to restore it and keep it alive.

Yea. I like how their past is a mystery, but I'm more interested in the Dwarves. Specifically those Dwarves of the Primeval Thaig.

I think the Dwarves were the cause of the Darkspawn.

Actually, I think the Dalish just need more screen time for me to really care. They didn't have much imo.

Oh? I thought "OH LOOK ITS A SHEMLEN x50"made the Dalish seem like very interesting people.

No seriously, I do find the elves interesting. Well in DA:O anyway. The DA2 ones are just repulsive.

Imagen Enviada I hate how they look in DAO, but otherwise I enjoy the story of the Elves themselves.

And you mean to say that the DAII Elves look great Imagen Enviada

If the DA2 elves looked great, then the derpspawn are a work of art.

Imagen Enviada never! Only the Genlocks and the Hurlock Alphas look great.

...I wonder if it's possible to work on modding the other Darkspawn to look more.... Darkspawn-esque and not look like albino monkey clowns.

The DA2 elves were a mixed bag. On one hand you had elves like Merrill and Athenril, but on the other hand you had the ones like Zevran.

I like Morrigan, but Merrill doesn't have to be like Morrigan at all, to be likeable.  I'd love to see young, cute and innocent done, without it morphing into woefully naive and even ignorant, as a trope attributed to young female characters. I don't like the "innocent=dumb" Gracie Allen schtick, and you almost always see this being tacked on a woman in fiction.

My favorite comic book character when I was a kid was Kitty Pryde, because she was smart and capable, despite being young, and somewhat innocent, but she was raised in a pretty normal family, and was well adjusted, and her personality reflected that.  Morrigan had a pretty crappy upbringing, and was kind of jaded and bitter because of it.  Merrill is very different, and was raised differently, but I just can't relate to her, because I don't understand how she can be *that* naive, when the rest of her clan doesn't appear to be, and Marethari doesn't appear to have trapped her in a bubble for her first twenty years or so.

Basically, I get why Morrigan is the way she is, or Velanna, even.  I don't "get" Merrill, and I would have liked to learn more about her beyond her quest to fix the Eluvian, in order to get to know her better.

Merrill's problem is that she was sheltered even among the Dalish. Consider taking a young Amish adult and toss them into a bustling 'English' city...but not just any young Amish person...one who has also had an extra layer of sheltering within their community....that's pretty much Merrill.  As for the rest of her clan, I don't know how they would act in the same situation.   They seem okay amongst themselves but then again, they weren't sheltered within the clan like Merrill was.  It seems as if Merrill spent the vast majority of her time studying or with Marethari.

I don't think this makes Merrill dumb and I think the rest of her story makes this clear.  Merrill eventualy adjusts to life amongst the humans and she's quite a learned scholar in her field.

I admit that I didn't much care for Merrill's character before DA2 came out, with what little we know, b/c she seemed to just be all about the trope you are describing.  I found that she's much more than this, though.

I guess I can easily relate to her behavior, being very shy/nerdy growing up and having like, no friends and horrid social skills...so my view is biased, ofc XD

Same. I made my Hawke look about 21 (this was before I realized he was actually 25 [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]) but yeah Hawke can look pretty young if you choose to make him such.

Randomly off topic, but how do we know for sure Hawke is 25?

I know there's the comment in Legacy about Leandra being pregnant while Malcolm was doing his thing there, and we know they fled Kirkwall 25 years prior to the beginning of the game, but do we know for sure that Legacy takes place immediately after Malcolm/Leandra fled Kirkwall?  Or did they flee but then had to return to the Free Marches later?

The wiki: Hawke is roughly 24 or 25 at the start of Act I. Gamlen states that Leandra left with Malcolm 25 years ago and Malcolm states that Leandra was pregnant when they left. (in Legacy)

I was the same way. I had like a very small click of friends that I could hang out with and I wasn't exactly the most confident person.

in the last 4-6 years though that's changed.

Agreed. Mostly I prefer the female voice actor, but Boulton did a superb job of voicing the rivalmance scene.

She's not used to being in constant contact with humans, nor does she live amongst them.So her naivety is understandable. But I just don't buy the whole cute and innocent act.She uses blood magic and made a deal with a demon. She knows the dangers of this.So she is no longer naive; she's reckless. She only cares about getting her clans history back and damn the consequences.

And then she doesn't understand why the Keeper took the demon into herself. She blames the Keeper for being stupid. The Keeper was not stupid, she understood risks more than Merrill and she wanted to keep her and the clan safe.Again this just shows how irresponsible Merrill is.You can't just make a decision and not expect a chain reaction that involves other people.

And she is so stubborn that she won't listen to Hawke when he/she doesn't let Merrill have the arulin'holm. It's just like taking a lollipop away from a child. She goes into a fit of "GO AWAY! Leave me alone!" Of course she's angry, but it comes off as being immature. She can't even go talk to the Keeper by herself, you gotta hold her hand.Plus I don't find her specialization all that helpful. She stays at home about 90% of the time during my playthrough's.

Combine this with her appearance and she comes off as being child-like.It's the reason why I can't bring myself to romance her.And it's also the reason why Merrill is my least favorite character out of the companions.
I don't hate Merrill, but she's not my favorite either.

The awkwardness of that scene is caused by the way she looks and the way she's positioned and the way the camera is positioned bringing out a prominent artificial uncanniness, it has nothing to do with her looking childlike.

I like Merrill ok. She deserves props for this:
" It's so exciting to be out of Kirkwall! It seems we haven't left there in ages! I needed this break. I was starting to think every part of Kirkwall looked alike."

As for the creeper Hawke thing, I think it's the beard. There aren't too many dudes that aren't like...your dad who's like 40 who can grow a beard like that.
