Theres big sovereign reapers and smaller ones that crawl through on land, like spiders. Also they use decives similar to the collector's oculi* to destroy fighters.

No, those devices ARE oculi.

Sure are,Devs said that around E3 I believe.

What's your thoughts about this? Maybe BioWare allready posted a reaction about this in the forum and I've just missed it? :)
...

I take it as evidence of some sort of evolutionary stagnation. Basically the Reapers cannot improve/evolve without reaping the other races, and when they do, the changes are so miniscule as to be almost unnoticeable.

I got the feeling the ones we saw at the end of ME2 were the largest and most powerful of their fleet.

So basically we saw their generals heading up the fleet?

I can't. I'm not even sure what that was supposed to be. Is it an improvement or just different?

Im thinking Its the core(Devs mentioned something like that) and then the traditional Reaper body is built around that....Or It grows into It.Idk lol, We'll see in ME3 surely.

It was what the name suggests-
A reaper made with human DNA, with a body based on Human anatomy. The reason things like it are made si to replace Reapers killed in previous harvests.

Is it just my bad eyes or do many of the Sovereign-looking reapers during the invasion of earth look the same except for a different colored glow? While Sovereign had red lighting, it looks to me like some in the earth mission have blue lights while others have purple, etc.

I support your initiative, OP, as well...

I would especially like to see a chubby Reaper (on the right). Also, it would be pretty cool IMO, if they used slightly different attacks / weapons.

Sovereign didn't have red lighting.  Sovereign had blue/white lighting and red lightning:

I definitely support this thread, and honestly, i think we all should, having all the reapers look the same would be as lazy as those dungeon re-use in DA2

Perhaps the Reaper ships we've seen in the demos are the cruiser sized one's.

I honestly hope so, but BW recently came out saying "no, thing here is that reapers do look different, but at the core", which at first sounds like something a woman would say, but then you realize its the perfect excuse to make all reapers look the same...

Then explain the Human Reaper?

I can explain it:

Shepard and EDI were misinformed. Nobody had ever seen a human-shaped Reaper core before. Lacking prior knowledge, they instantly assumed it was some kind of prototype Reaper rather than just a part of it. It's not a retcon, not really -- just an elaboration.

Plus, who in their right mind would want the Terminator floating around in space? That's ridiculous. Thanks, but I'll stick with my cuttlefish.

ok. You want a different looking reaper. I point you to the E3 footage and that ground stomping square monstrosity playing a game of squash the shepard until it gets bombarded by the Quarians. This thread seems to be forgetting that little number.

Bah, the Reapers were all going to end up looking roughly the same anyway. The human reaper was interesting, but coming up with different alien civilizations for ALL the Reapers, AND simultaneously making them look appropriately disgusting and evil, would be a bit too much. The only way you could justify something like that is if each was a different boss, but that smacks a bit too much of Megaman.

I AM hoping to see a Reaper made from the Keepers, though. Weren't they supposed to be among the earliest of the Reaper-defeated civilizations?

That was just speculation by Vigil, and it admitted it really had no idea.  In any case, if they were conquered instead of just made, then they probably didn't get Reaperised, because they're still around, just like the Collectors were still around, remnants of the non-Reaperised Protheans.

True enough.  And it would be hard to view a keeper, even an enormous one, as malevolent and threatening.  The Reapers get a lot of scary mileage just out of looking so utterly bizarre.  That was part of the problem with the Human Reaper, it looked too familiar, you couldn't really be as scared of it as you were of Soveriegn.

Still, it'd be a nice shout-out to the original series, and something of a confirmation of Vigil's Theory.  I often wonder what that first war must have been like, between the Keepers and the Reapers.  It had to have been before the Citadel, maybe even before the Mass Effect Drives.

There was no misunderstanding.  When Shepard comes across the Human Reaper, EDI states it's far from complete and could be compared to an Embryo.  People ignored that statement and just assumed "oh now the Reapers are small and human looking. Bioware is stealing from Terminator.  Great."

They look like the race they're genetically grown from and most likely store the collective consciousness of all those melted down. The sum of which is later encased in the generic Ship-like structure that we know as Reapers.

Basically the Reaper hull is like a personalized suit of armor with lasers, invincible shields, land, air, space, FTL and relay capabilities.  The more "uniquely" shaped aliens turned into Reapers probably require or grow a different shaped hull.

The Human-Reaper would have been emplaced in a shell that looked much like the other Reapers (same for the hypothetical Keeper-Reaper).  It wasn't remotely complete.
