Sure, let's make asari less of a race of Mary-Sue space babes in the reboot.
How are asari Mary-sues exactly?

Reading the topic name, I'd almost hoped for the cliched reboot with inexperienced yet feisty teenagers that happen to resemble previous incarnations...

Oh, I wish I had my old list saved...
The asari are the best biotics...
The asari are the best diplomats...
The asari are the longest lived...
The asari are the most populous...
The asari are the most respected...
The asari are the most wise...
The asari are the most peaceful...
The asari are the best commandoes...
The asari were the first in space...
The asari were the first to find the Citadel...
I think I might be forgetting a few.

That doesn't make them Mary Sues though, they still have flaws...

As for your list, a lot of that comes with the longevity of their species. They are no more Mary Sues than High Elves in fantasy...

I don't think this is an actual attempt at a mod, Arkitekt. It is more of a thought experiment. For fun. You know?
It's fun to talk about alternate ways things could have happened in Mass Effect. "what could have been" and such.

In that case, writing fanfictions and doing fanart is some kind of "waste of time" too. People do it because of fun.Arkitekt wrote...

Seems like a waste of time to me. Have fun then.

Like what?
Actually I can tear them down just fine when I need to, but they are presented as being a bit perfect. They are also the token "sexy race" (even though they aren't that sexy).Nizzemancer wrote...

I think you are pulling my leg.

any re-telling of the Mass Effect story will take place on the big screen. Just hope to god the movies are decent.

Well I did have another idea...
What if Shepard was changed a bit? His/her background? Specifically, what if Shepard wasn't a distinguished soldier? IE: not a legend/hero already? Instead Shepard is a (relatively) green officer?
The mission to Eden Prime is not also an evaluation of Shepard to join the Spectres. That's not even being considered. It's just a normal mission and Shepard is there because he is competent.
He'd be a little younger and a lower rank I suppose.
He gets swept up in events and it is at the end of the Citadel arc that the Council decides to make him a Spectre. The Council though are ambivalent towards Shepard, not caring much if he succeed or fails since either way they'll spin it to make themselves look better.
Udina is very pessimistic, barely giving Shepard the time of day (even more unfriendly than he was in the real game).
Anderson is hopeful and supportive, but preparing for the worst.
So Shepard, with so little support, must prove himself by going above and beyond his station (rank) to get the job done. It is the events of ME1 that will turn Shepard from a green officer into a veteran and galactic hero. Over the course of the rest of the series he'll become more confident, battle hardened, and a greater legend.
I thought it was a neat idea anyway.
