I play the game like normal for 5-10 minutes and then i get outrageous lag for 5 and then the game returns to normal for another 5 and so on.  I tried the setting affinity as well as disabling TLB unfortunately neither had any affect at all.  If you have any idea at all what could be causing  this issue I'd appreciate it. here are my specs

Processor: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core 2.20Ghz
Video: Geforce 9400GT
RAM: DDR2-SDRAM 6GB
OS: Vista  64bit

Your video card isn't even Medium Quality.  You may have been trying to run your settings, particularly resolutions, too high for it.

Even if I set everything to low it still lags. I should be able to run it on at least the lowest quality shouldn't I?

Actually, the range of visual settings is fairly narrow, and doesn't change the load a lot.  As I've already said, it's resolution that matters the most when you have a low end card like what you have.

There is a massive bug for the Phemon cpu that you need a patch for., Otherwise the game gets slow and acts very strange

Well he has 4 cores. So the game will spawn 3 worker threads.. that's a non issue. In fact that will greatly speed up the game. Ram is no problem. Plenty for the game and an HD cache. I DO suggest turning Superfetch OFF as it will always keep precaching the HD as the game uses and frees up ram. The OS is fine. Despite all the Vista bashing, Vista runs games just fine.

The video card isn't the best, but this is a DX 9 game, but one that REALLY pushes CPUs and GPUs.

I suspect it's a hard drive issue... and this is just an educated GUESS. I bet if Nate55333
watches his HD let light during one of these lag spikes the HD is on solid.

Nate: If what I'm guessing is true, let me know because there are several causes for that.

If it's NOT the case the only thing I can think of is you have the game's resolution set to hard for what the card can handle, and when there's a lot of particles or other things to be drawn, your GPU lags you out.

Also a LOT of the spell particle use the PhysX/CUDA API calls, and w/o a dedicate Aegia PhysX card or a dedicated Nvidia GPU, it will use the CPU or canabalize time on your GPU to use PhysX (depending on how you have your nvidia control panel set up)

All ATI users are forced to run all PhysX code on their CPUs (unless they have an Aegia PhysX card - which can no longer be purchased as nvidia bought out Aegia and enabled their GPUs to handle it)

unfortunately the HD is not solid during one of these spikes. Turning off Superfetch and decreasing the resolution did help make the lag a little more bearable but the lag spikes do still come. The only other info i can think to add was it also did this on the character creator but i had hope it linked to something else if not, perhaps I should consider a new card.

that card should work fine. my roommate runs on a GTS 250 which isn't much better than the 9xxx series. My laptop has 2 8800Ms in SLI mode with no issues either

If you have someway of monitoring your CPU use that would help, like a G15 KB or something.... and see if ALL 4 CPUs spike. I say this because with 4 CPUs, the game uses 3, leaving only one core.. if you have ANYTHING in the background taking up cpu cycles now and then, it could slow you down....

another way to test the card is put ALL game settings to LOW/MINIMAL as well as LOW rez.. something like 1024x768. if you STILL get the lag.. it's NOT your GPU ;)

If that's the case it's CPU lag or some other form of lag or game coding issues

And is there anything I can do to fix that?

well one thing you can try is hit control alt delete and sort processes by user name and terminate any uneeded processes... see if that helps

Processor: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core 2.20Ghz
Video: Geforce 9400GT
RAM: DDR2-SDRAM 6GB
OS: Vista 64bit

Those are your specs....

OS: fine

Ram: MORE than fine

Video: should be ok (if you did the above test)

CPU: That's a SLOW quad core. VERY slow.. but the game will use 3 worker threads.. so thats like having 1 big 6.3Ghz cpu. So you should be ok. However, I'm NOT an AMD expert. I know someone said your cpu isn't the issue but I've been seeing tremendous lag with the game associated with ALL types of AMD cpus.. and not just lag issues.. for some the game goes 5-10X faster than it should LOL.

I have a feeling it has something to do with your CPU (provided your system lags even with all settings low and low rez)

Unfortuantely this game seems to be VERY INTEL/NVIDIA biased (which it shouldn't be). All games should be calling the same windows APIs. All windows CPU drivers "should" have the proper drivers and fixes patched by M$. Notice SHOULD being the operative word. I know many AMD people on here had to hunt FOREVER to find fixes for this game.
