classes suck.

we should all be soldiers, allow us to select 1 of the elite powers and whatever the hell other abilities we want. give me all the abilities, and let me decide which ones i want to use.

whatever, mirandas booty.

I suggested an uber powerful class, unlocked only after completing the game on insanity with each class. Then someone added what you just said. I would like it if Bioware does something like that. Beating the game while shooting and throwing enemies left and right will be enjoyable!

(What's this?  A smart, literate person rolls soldier?  Ye gods, is it even possible?)

If I want ammo powers I play Vanguard/Infiltrator. Much more exciting.

Adrenaline Rush is so boringly OP.

Frag Grenade is awesome though. Perhaps it will make me try Soldier in ME3.

You haven't rocked fully upgraded Assault Armor or Area Charge, have you?

Yes, I have and it's nothing compared to the ability to make all enemies move in slow motion (including their shots), the mega bonus damage, and the ability to just unload an entire clip of head shots with the Revenant while the enemies are all powerless to disrupt you.

Add up the numbers, do the math.

i dont mess with squad members other than pick them to go on mission, usually ill let them die at the beginning of combat so they dont get in the way or annoy me or leave them sitting behind cover away from combat. i dont play other classes because i like to kill stuff with guns. ive messed aroudn wiht putting a few different powers on the soldier class but that was just to check some of them out and see what they do(advanced training or whatever). reave was the only power i thought was ok but even that seemed a bit op.

Fair enough.

I'm not saying make the soldier as OP as it was before. I'm saying turn things down a few notches, rather than turn everything else up.

The "solution" Bioware found to soldier's OPness is essentially a smaller scale version of this:

This country has nukes. Nobody else does. Let's give everyone else nukes on top of their laser beams and active camoflauge and force fields to balance things out.

Oh, wait, now the old OP one is the new underpowered one. Whoops.

True. I am doing a sentinel playthrough and though I have more active powers, I use my squaddies to kill my enemies at times, while as a soldier, well....

Actually, it seems that combat mastery added a weapon weight capacity. I'm assuming that if you're a soldier you can choose to increase your weight limit so you can have the best weapons (ravager, widow, shotgun) without being hindered. However, the other classes will have some sort of handicap. I'm not sure what it is, but people are speculating it's reduced running (or not at all) or you can't roll.

I think what might make a soldier even better is their concussive shot - if done correctly. To make concussive shot useful they should leave the default ability to be effected by ammo powers (I saw somewhere that it might be an upgrade..which would be horrible because cs is a god-awful power). They also get a huge boost to health and shields (I saw the beta gameplay - he had a lot. His combat mastery actually added even more).

my only problem with soldier class is the stupid ammo powers and that worthless adrenaline rush. imo they should have put the ammo types back in to replace the ammo powers and put weapon skills back in for soldier class.

AR is not worthless. Maybe you are too proud to use it, thinking it is cheating?
Ammo powers are better for soldier. They have no cooldowns and soldier's playstyle demands almost continuous firing, since giving him biotics will essentially eliminate the difference it has from other classes.

has nothing to do with pride. i like to have fun when playing games. running around hitting a win button is not fun, its boring to me.

Are you sure soldier will be useless and not massively OP. Adrenaline rush + a sh*tload of guns + return of grenades = dead anything.

But really I hope they increase the fun level, as I find adept/engineer/vanguard much more fun to play.

The soldier (with mattock) was stupidly broken in ME2 and it had nothing to do with how many weapons, or weapons unavailable to other classes, it could carry. Besides, there could still be some super weapons that are too heavy for any other class to use without penalties.

I played my first plythrough on hardcore without using AR even once and I made it through somehow. Tried the same thing at insanity, but without AR, you are slowed down a lot at some places and can easily get killed in some places where there isn't lot of space for maneuverability, like in the long walk when the scion and the husks attack. If you cleared that stuff at insanity without AR once, then I would say you are a neat player.

The return of grenades makes me happy.  Beware my exploding death frisbees.

Yes, Adrenaline Rush was OP, but so was Tech Armor, and for the same reason: there was no drawback to using it.  With Biotic Charge, you are putting yourself incredibly close to the enemy, and Tactical Cloak halts health restoration.  It looks like Tech Armor has been "fixed" by making cooldowns a little longer while it's active, and perhaps Adrenaline Rush can be made less OP by simply lengthening its cooldown, forcing the player to be smart about when (s)he uses it.

Anyway, the appeal for Soldier for me is that it's simple and straightforward.  Sometimes, playing without all the extra bells and whistles can be fun.

Honestly, there seems to be very little incentive for anyone to play as a soldier now. All classes can use all weapons, and soldiers have no non-combat powers. Sure, they don't get slowed down when you carry every weapon, but most people only use two or three weapons most of the time, only pulling out others when necessary.
The Omni-blade and grenade are cool, but still not enough reason to go without biotic or tech powers.

Adrenaline rush makes lining up head shots rediculously easy and crazy damaging with something like the Widow.  I've done most of my playthroughs on Soldier.  I can tell you that returning carnage is big if the soldier class gets it.  If not, its already ugly enough with Adrenaline rush and the highest health and armor.

When I played as Engineer in the Sur'Kesh demo, I barely had to fire my guns at all. I had a drone and a turret that could do that for me.

I just fired the guns because I wanted to.

There's really nothing special the Soldier has for me, and I have no reason to carry five guns when I'm a caster and three guns can cover my ranges with ease, so I see no reason why I should play as Soldier at all.

Soldier is best played WITHOUT Adrenaline Rush:

Disclaimer: I did not make that video.

Pretty much this. I actually find the soldier to be enjoyable because of the simplicity. I like the feeling of having a gun for every situation. An enemy far away? Sniper time! Someone approaching rather quickly? Get out a shotty (or revenant if you chose it). Adrenaline rush was..good. But because concussive shot was absolutely horrible, adrenaline rush was the only ability the soldier had. This is one of the reasons why I'm excited to play a soldier in ME3. Concussive shot will be effected by ammo powers and have a short cooldown. Adrenaline rush will have an increased cooldown - probably trying to balance it out.

Adrenaline Rush is probably the best class power. If you use it right you will never die.

Plus, a Soldier can wield a Revenant, Claymore, and Widow...AT THE SAME TIME. That sounds awesome.
