You mean a tatical advance in the opposite direction right?

Such wording would imply a level of pride in what I do.  I have no shame whatsoever.

When the going gets tough, camp in a corner and let more qualified individuals handle the problem.

Define "too easy."

No health damage, no medigel, no heavy weapon. For several missions on Insanity. I know many people who always play like this in every class they play (including Vanguard) though.

I think a good way to balance is for Shields (but not Health) to recharge slower during Adrenaline Rush. Also rapid firing Mattock or similar weapons should incur a penalty, like occasional jams.

Those individuals possess a level of hand-eye coordination I shall never obtain.

That would definitely work.

Turian strategy.

I thought the Turians are famous for how they retreat.

'Turian units don't break. Even if their entire line collapses, they fall back in order, setting ambushes as they go. A popular saying holds: "You will only see a turian's back once he's dead."'

I think the Duke of Wellington said something like "The hardest thing of all for a Soldier is to retreat", no?

My problem with the Soldier is that there's nothing particularly "Mass Effect-y" about them. Bullet time and frag grenades aren't hard to come by in other games and all of the weapons in the game aren't that exciting/original or differentiated to want to be able to carry all of them at once. Also, realistically, you'll switch between two favorite ammo types throughout the game and that's where the Vanguard and Infiltrator come in. Who cares that you can kill things faster when it's boring and easy to do it?

Turians are the ultimate retreat soldier. They show you what a real tactical retraet is.

Ummm, everyone could use any weapon in ME, and the soldier didn't even have AR then... and it was easily the best class in the game(well, the infiltrator could bet it, but it was only marginally better).

The problem then was that you had to spend like ten points in Sniper Rifles to get rid of that annoying wobbling.

True, but you could always use the assault rifle or pistol and annihilate anything.

Really, I'd say Sentinnel is actually the OP class now, since they get tech armor, aforementioned weapon choices, AND tech/biotic abilities.

It's only as OP as you make it. Once I felt like my Assault Armor was making things too easy for me I retrained my powers and set it down to rank-2 (would've been 1 if I didn't need to unlock Overload).

Typically when I have AR on I'm getting shot at anyway. And getting hit resets (or at least pushes back) the shield recharge timer, so I think this particular penalty would be redundant.

Funny, I remember a lot of threads like this before ME2 was released, and yet Soldier still ended up one of, if not the most popular class.

that is simply because you get more guns:devil:
the soldier class should be like a soldier, extensivly trained in arms and tactics, not a bunch of stupid powers to make them feel like a biotic or tech

I bet you even in it's current form it will retain it's dominant status.

its current form is the problem imo thats why i think they should remove the "powers"(ar and ammo powers) and replace them with things like weapon skills.

That's only true for certain types of Soldier, in particular the Revenant Rambo type. With heavy-hitting, slow-firing weapons (shotguns, snipers, Mattock), and by timing your attack to the enemies', you can often (about half the time) avoid being hit in a trench warfare.

Looks like OP missed the MP beta leak vid that shows the soldiers' set of powers. In my opinion they are bad-ass.
