I'd have gotten the DA2 SE if EA had made enough of them, cause I ordered it online and last minute the retailers said EA couldn't deliver, so all orders were cancelled there.
Not that I want it now, after seeing the actual game.
I think EA did the same thing with Battlefield 3, from what I read, stores emailed people saying they couldn't guarantee them a CE copy because of EA.

Am I one of few Bioware fans that enjoyed Planescape: Torment more than Baldur's Gate?

Still think BG was really good but sometimes I feel bad for PS:T always being behind in lists of oldschool Rpgs (Icewind Dale, Fallout, Deus Ex, BG, etc.) :-(

Anyway I agree that Baldur's Gate in its time (as in when it came out and was in its prime) is much better than a lot of Rpgs these days when they come out (trying not to cave into nostalgia I'd say DA:O rivals BG when it comes to how good they were when they came out...)

I hope DA 3 goes back to some of the things DA:O was trying to revive.

EDIT: ^ that said KOTOR was a great game without having a few traditional elements, so I think as long as DA 3 has a great storyline, world and enjoyable combat mechanics then I'll still enjoy it.

No, I also consider Planescape: Torment to be far and above Baldur's Gate. I found the setting to be more entertaining, the characters actually had personality, and it has one of the best storylines in gaming. It was an absolutely incredible experience.

I think DAO rivals BG2 in overall quality (though I rank KotOR and NWN as very close to BG2, as well).

But BG stands alone out front, I think.

While im Planescape fan BG series always charmed me more. PS:T lost some of its magic after completing it first time (and i was a high int. mage who "remembered" his true name :o)

But my favorites are Fallout 2/Arcanum by a long shot. Wild range of roleplay they have. And maybe Ultima 7 :wizard:

Edit: While i would sacrifice my first born to play remak versions any of those games we listed, i dont live in a dreamworld. My hopes for DA3 for beyond minimal and if any other company will make a group based CRPG i WILL be suprised, a lot.

Arcanum... I loved that game. Lots of things that could have been done better in it, but it was truly a fantastic game. Reminded me of a cross between Baldur's Gate and Fallout, more than anything.

When EA bought BioWare, my first thought was "That is awesome - EA owns the Ultima franchise."

Sadly, nothing has come of that.

Sylvius, I think you would have been deeply dissapointed along with others if they did anything with Ultima. Knowing what rebooting franchises does it would be a hard thing to look at. Unless they did what DA:O did ofcourse.

Didn't Bioware state that a game like Baldur's Gate would be impossible to make with today's tech? It'd be too expensive and take waaaaaaaaay too long

I think this discussion thread has run its course over the last few months, and is no longer really about DA2. Thanks, everyone!

End of line.
