"For co-op, there will be character DLC, and the co-op campaign will follow a completely different story to the single-player, including some unique characters. There are also "more customisation options" in multiplayer for weapons and armour, and separate Trophies and Achievements." Pulled from IGN.com

Trophies and Achievements... So I have to touch the garbage that is the co-op to get them for 1 of my favorite game series of all times for the platinum Posted Image I think Bioware is dropping the ball on ME3, lets hope the co-op is not gonna be terrible then, or I'm gonna throw a sh**storm.

The "no friends" argument has to be the worst argument I've ever heard. I'd LOVE to play coop with my bro, but no way in hell are we buying a spare xbox. Playing online with friends is nothing compared to playing with a friend on the couch. Most major fps/tps have a splitscreen option, and Bioware really dropped the ball by not including one.

That said, I look forward to trying the multiplayer if only because I've always dreamed of playing as a Salarian. Hopefully there is a random match option.

Will local co-op be supported? (ie local split screen, PC-LAN)
At the time of release, no. However it is definitely on the table as something we might add.

Fingers crossed they add it, however ultimately it will be about whether this feature contributes to the experience and can be implemented with the level of quality we expect from ME games. I've seen some split-screen gameplay on other non BioWare titles that totally takes away from the immersive experience. But keep asking for it so people know you want to see it in the future Posted Image

I should go,

Out of curiosity, how long have we known about the co-op having a separate campaign story? For the life of me, I really don't remember hearing anything about it before that Ign article. I thought it was (literally) intended as a Horde mode.

That's what I thought too.

So great, SP is only part of the storyline:(

Again:

Exactly who will we be fighting for? Citadel Defense Forces, Mercenary Groups?
At a high level, Shepard is marshaling the troops on behalf of the Earth Alliance so you are technically fighting for the Earth Alliance. From a story perspective, a lot of these groups have come together as a loose fighting force to stop the reapers therefore they don’t fly the same type of banners that would have existed in pre- reaper invasion days.

If it’s a separate story campaign, are our multiplayer characters playing their part in dialogue scenes or is it more of an environmental storytelling?
While it is separate to the main story they will never be involved in the actual campaign of the main story. It’s more like a side mission to the SP. We don’t want to create situations where MP players have something that SP players couldn’t otherwise see.
http://blog.bioware....-jesse-houston/

MP campaigns and Galaxy at War are a means to show everyone what's happening beyond Shepard's immediate scope. What's going on in the rest of the universe while Shepard's story is progressing? Can't say more or I'll start getting into spoilers. But from a person who doesn't normally play MP, I would caution that you be open-minded until you can try the demo in Jan. or have the game in your hands in March then judge away Posted Image

HA!

You've contradicted yourself!

HA!

HA HA-HA HA!

HA!

If you read one of the comics/novels you obviously get to see what's going on outside Shepard's domain. Think of MP as a more interactive way to become immersed in the ME Universe. It won't show you aspects of the "ACTUAL CAMPAIGN OF THE MAIN STORY" aka Shepard's story, but it will give you more insight into the Galaxy.

[Renegade Interrupt]  If you're just going to pick apart the things I say to be contrary, however, what's the point in me being on the forums discussing the information we've released? Hmm? [Some kind of cake is a lie reference here]

I should go.

I'm guessing the subtlties of my sig got missed again ;)

While I admit I play SP games far more than multiplayer, and even my multiplayer preferences run more towards Civilization than Gears of War, I have nothing against multiplayer as such.  I am, however, deeply suspicious of it in ME3.

I like pizza.  I like ice cream.  I do not, however, like ice cream in my pizza.  Even good ice cream.

Most games with multiplayer I have played in the past keep them totally seperate.  No benefits transfer from one to the other.  SInce MP in ME3 can affect single player, I am left to wonder how much it can do so. How much it will do so, even unintentionally.  Is that Haagen Dazs on my pepperoni?

And the very idea that one might have to play the mp campaign to get the full "Mass Effect 3" story" would really take the cake.  (Is anyone else starting to get hungry?)

At any rate, I don't doubt Bioware could make a good multiplayer game if they set their mind to it.  What bugs me is that ME3 seems to be trying to have it both ways, to be both single and multiplayer in one game.  But seperate of course.  That's the meaning of my sig.  And I doubt any demo can ease that fear.

Pretty much this, in its entirety.
Although I gotta confess Iakus, I didn't know you played anything besides RPGs? Posted Image

It CAN affect single player if you want it to. If you don't want it, it won't affect anything. This really should be clear by now.

"SP can still be played all by itself without any kind of multiplayer or third party and you can still get the absolute best ending. This just gives you new options to be able to get that ending."

We're giving you even more choices in a game that's about choice. You're the one with the agency to decide if and how you use MP.

I should go.

You don't understand that different people have different tastes and preferences?

I don't hate the fact that ME3 will have multiplayer. What I "hate" is that there might be story or plot elements tied to the multiplayer, which does not suit my personal preferences.

Should we not make the books and comics available since some people don't like them and might miss out on plot elements or characters that are discussed in them?

Whilst I can see the answer to its affect in that regard, what some others of us are asking is in the example below.

I decide that I'm going to do my initial playthrough of the SP and just go for full GR from doing the SP
I then decide that whilst that was fun there is going to be some where I now know I won't hit full GR with it so am going to give some of them a bit more of a chance by doing the MP, so I go play that and get what is needed to help boost the GR
I go play one of said playthroughs where I import my MP GR boost.
I then want to play my 'Worse Playthrough' where I don't want any 'outside' GR boost help.

Is the last thing possible considering I've already played the MP and got the boost or is the boost kind of like the resources/credits boost we got for ME and ME2 for subsequent playthroughs and it will apply to all once we've unlocked that ability?

I am hoping for the former because I don't want to do my 'Worse playthrough' first before having played the game and tried out MP.

Also as pointed out by Bogsnot1 and to some extent 11, if we were to do a full SP run getting the 100% GR from that... would the MP GR boost add to that or would it have no relevance in that instance?

Those are great questions and I'll be happy to track someone down to see about getting them answered. If I can't however, I apologize in advance and ask for patience until we're able to discuss those details about the game. Sorry for sounding like an automated message! But I'll see what I can do.

I noticed that you Bioware folks are repeatedly ignoring the point about online acheivements and how it forces us to depend on how other people play to get our platinum. Is this because you realize how badly you have ****ed up and just don't want to admit it?

The achievements haven't been released so I don't know how you can say what they will and will not require. Sorry if that sounds rude, but we the fans don't have any idea how MP achievements will work toward getting the platinum trophy. Which kind of makes this whole thread pointless... hmm...

I should go.

And I believe that it "technically" will be optional. What I really need to know is: am I going to be left with a Hobson's Choice?
I appreciate the situation you're in, but given all the pre-multiplayer marketing, it's not something I can merely take on that single statement alone.  Multiplayer may 'technically' be optional, but if I choose to forego that option, can I expect to be farming planets for galactic resources, hours on end? That is my primary worry. Not simply that I can avoid multiplayer, but the decision itself remains a viable/enjoyable experience.

Thank you for appreciate me being stuck between a rock and a hard place when just two mere months ago I was another BioWare fan worried about whether ME3 would be everything I wanted it to be. Posted Image

I think that the devs want to make your experience enjoyable and they've really tried to listen to user feedback from ME1 and ME2. Time has definitely been taken into making sure that the experiences are balanced. I can't promise that there won't be parts in there that aren't thrilling and may feel like chores (although things I liked other people might find tedious and vice versa), but I would be very surprised if I played my SP only campaign and felt like I was spending a great deal of time farming or doing repetitive nonsense.
