Now, statistics has shown that interracial marriages are growing at astounding rates. So pray, tell why are a majority of the human characters in Mass Effect white? Shouldn't there at least be a somewhat huge population of minorites within the game? What's going on?

This is a serious discussion. If you don't want to be a part of it, don't post.

No racist jokes, either.

Because white people are obviously superior, and that nasty darker-skinned trait has been weeded out naturally.

...

Nah, I don't really like my fellow white people. We need more diversity in ME. For reals.

Because Bioware is Canadian and most of the people the animators are used to seeing are white. Whether it's "racism," I'm unsure; it's probably just designing what you know. But that part may not have been as well thought out as it could have been.

I'd guess because the majority of people in Canada, America, and Europe are white. That's purely a guess.

Anderson, Udina, Gianna Parasini, Ashley, Kasumi, Jacob, Emily Wong, Khalisah al-Jilani, etc. etc. There is a huge amount of non-white humans in the game so I don't know what the problem is....

Um...considering those are all different races...and the fact that each of them combined compared to white characters still is lower, it's in issue. Not a big one. Just a curious one.

Aren't more of your human squadmates non-white than white? Besides, what ME misses in human diversity it more than makes up for in alien diversity.

I wouldn't exactly call that huge amount.

Has anyone noticed that despite having a Slavic surname, Kaidan actually looks Eurasian. The same goes for Ashley Williams who appears to have Latin American facial features as well.

Kaidan's mother was in Singapore if I remember right.....so Eurasian probably is his ethnicity.

Yeah I think BW just picked their names out of a hat, they're in no way indicative of ethnicity.

ME1: 2/6 (a third) of the squad is human (Kaidan, Ashley)

ME2: 5/12 (a third) of the squad is human (Kasumi, Zaeed, Jack, Jacob, Miranda)

ME3 4/8? (half) of the squad is human (Vega, *spoiler*, Kaidan, Ashley)

In ME2 it's actually 5/12. And isn't it only 3 in ME3? Really two because at least one VS is dead. Point taken though, especially because the alien squadmates are generally more interesting.

Guess that's mostly because the main audience for such games are considered to be white. Besides that, you can make yourself a non-white Shepard.

Besides that - although the majority of humans in ME appear to be white, they aren't. Ashley isn't white - she's mixed (hispanic features). We saw indians and arabics as well and french names seems to be common too. I could feel offended there are NO german names at all in game (except you accept Conrad Verner as one and Hackett - both could have german origins) - but I don't. Maybe Germany got absorbed in 22nd century by another nation ... Image IPB

Ah, yes, 3/8 in ME3. And it's 3, not 2, though I won't spoil anything. And I'll edit my post about ME2.

Seeing as how anglo america and white europe are decreasing in population, while almost every other area of the world is seeing huge population growth, the OP has a very valid point. It would make more sense if most of the humans in the game were of east asian and Indian descent.

Or it could mean that Ashley's mother was from a country in Latin American or of Latin American descent and Kaidan's father is Eastern Europe or of Eastern European descent.

Is there somebody I'm forgetting? I thought the squad was Tali, Garrus, Liara, VS, Vega, and two new nonhumans.

Those are also some of the wealthiest nations, though, and would likely have populations that'd make up a disproportionate amount of the Alliance.

Well, most humans are still back on Earth, so it could just be a situation of which ethnicities and countries usually have a want to go to space instead of staying on Earth.  As well as the economical and financial situation of each of those populations.

If things will go on like they do now, chinese people should be the wealthiest before this century ends.

Myth busted Image IPB

Seriously, there is a lack of asian people.

No. Thanks to China's crappy gov't, they won't become this economic superpower that everyone thought they would. A lot of Chinese businesspeople are actually coming to America.
