Just to point out:

The novels and Bioware's initial background story for Mass Effect said that Earth was pretty much a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures.

Humanity is meant to be extremely diverse (with all sorts of racial and cultural combinations, Hendel Mitra in the books was half Indian and half Swedish).

Unfortunately the games have stuck with your generic Canadian/American white folk, probably because (as people have said) it's cheaper than employing other accents, and maybe cause they think the market is bigger. I'm not sure.

As for the Alliance leadership: the fiction says China and the USNA (including Mexico and Canada) are the dominant Earth powers, we haven't seen many Chinese characters at all (a few on Feros, maybe Kai Leng) and nothing at all about many other countries on Earth.

I wonder if USNA includes EU as well or not. At least EU should play a role being another major power ... ah nevermind. Need to read it once I have time.

Seeing as how anglo america and white europe are decreasing in population, while almost every other area of the world is seeing huge population growth, the OP has a very valid point. It would make more sense if most of the humans in the game were of east asian and Indian descent.

Those are also some of the wealthiest nations, though, and would likely have populations that'd make up a disproportionate amount of the Alliance.

If things will go on like they do now, chinese people should be the wealthiest before this century ends.

No. Thanks to China's crappy gov't, they won't become this economic superpower that everyone thought they would. A lot of Chinese businesspeople are actually coming to America.

This..............China is about to implode, their Government is excercising way too much political power over her people.  They are leaving in droves for countries with more personal freedoms and less government intervention.  As the best and brightest of her people leave, China is slowly loosing what made them such an economic powerhouse.  It will be slow, but it is inevitable.

I see alot of diversity in the Mass Effect series, at least in the main and secondary characters.  The lack of diversity comes from all the "extras" you see to fill the role of the masses.

This information and I use that term very loosely, comes from an organization founded by an individual that hated ALL people of color. So you'll have to forgive me if I line my birdcage with this information.

Yeah cherry picked Stats don't mean anything. I took several stats courses in college and its easy to manipulate the numbers. Of course part of the ease is the fact that most Americans suck at understanding math. I mean its not like he even gives u anything useful to find information.

It's worth pointing out that Shanxi would've been a Chinese colony.

I don't think the Alliance has been explored enough, I'd love to see a different type of RPG set before Mass Effect and dealing with humanity's first steps into the galaxy. It'd be a great way to focus on human reactions to aliens and the technology, rather than epic sentient spaceships.

First Contact? Hm I generally don't like playing games set during that time period unless there is a massive time scale difference like the difference between the Star Wars Movies and KOTOR. Id honestly rather hope into the future and see the aftermath of the Reaper Invasion with races establishing a new balance of power based on how much damage the reapers did.

Actually, you're quite wrong.  This is official science.  He's not confusing the terms in the least bit.  Race is a socially constructed artifice.  Edward James Olmos is essentially making this argument.  Genetically, race doesn't exist and what determine as differences are merely based on surface descriptors. 

I'm not going to touch that Anderson comment because I think it speaks for itself.

That being said, I think Mass Effect has done a pretty good job is showing diverse ethnicity in humans, especially compared to other franchises' representation of minorities.  Cole Train, I'm looking at you...

You're missing the point. All the organizations could come out tomorrow and say that there are aliens on the moon. The point being, everything that the mind control (government, means mind control by the way) says doesn't mean a thing. Everyone knows that the corporation know as the United States is itself run by other corporations. Bottom line Zkyire....it's all about money.

As a person of mixed heritage that married a person of mixed heritage who has children who are so mixed we put "LOL" on the ethnicity section of the census, I can say that there will be a TON of identifiable cultural and ethnic traits going forward. You will be able to see Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and all of the pretty colors representing their own respective stocks for quite some time. Even in this age, where barriers are breaking down and people have easier access to other cultures than ever before, you will still have some Italian guy who refuses to let his daughter date a black man, or a Chinese man who refuses to let his son marry a white girl, or even a native American that will only marry another native to keep the tribe alive.

It is a long, slow road to sexual conquest, humanity has a history of wiping out its competitors like ****** sapien neanderthalis by breeding them out. But some of those traits are never going to truly disappear, and pockets of "pure" populations are still going to exist.
