In ME1, once Shep arrives at the Citadel, I spent 40 minutes talking to everyone I could see. Between the music and the dialogue, everything seemed more deep than any other game I played before. My dad even walked in at this point (he doesn't play video games, but he tolerates my hobby) and said he founded himself mysteriously interested in this game.

That long hall in Ilos and then the conversation with the Prothean AI.

Same here.  And this was after playing ME2 first.

1. Walking out of the Zhu's Hope colony on Feros and feeling like I'd actually made a difference there.
2. Not being able to talk down Wrex and being genuinely shocked and angry at Ashley for taking him out. Then realizing I could leave her to die on Virmire, even though I was romancing her, as a kind of "penance" for her murder was another wow moment. Making up your own story within a story and having it feel legitimately "yours" is powerful. Then when I realized I could romance Liara and that my Shepard wasn't destined to be alone, I was surprised once again.

In Mass Effect 2, the exact same thing happened relationship-wise. I went into it with the pre-conceived notion that I was going to romance Miranda (seeing as it didn't work out with the hot brunette before), only to find myself much more interested in Jack, her arch-rival. Very cool.

Eden Prime, when Nihlus got shot in the back, and then again during the Citadel, when my dialogue choices really impacted the game and I could be good or evil. The entire Virmire mission, 'specially the Wrex choice and the dying squadmate, and then the entire end of the game after that. What sealed the deal was ME2, when my choices did carry over,(Ish), still made me Giddy like a FanBoy.

When I got control of the Normandy in ME1 and I was staring at the galaxy map.

I was checking out the solar systems in the cluster before hitting x and realizing there was an S-load of other clusters, full of other systems, full of other planets. Blew my mind.

I totally agree with this. The sense of adventure one feels when you look at the map for the first time, is awesome.

Noveria. I'm not sure why, but it just worked for me. I played the game and loved it, but Noveria was just that moment when I realized it was an epic series. Might have been Benezia's sad death or the Rachni Queen's conversation with Shepard, but that was it.

For most people this generation started in 2005 with the 360 and its early games. For me, the generation started in 2008 with Mass Effect (I got it late) and Mirror's Edge.

It was one of the more disappointing moments finding out that Manuel was dead in such a anticlimatic way.

Yeah, that kind of sucked, he was one of the more interesting characters.

I dunno, he seemed like a pretty stock, superfluous charcter to me.

I've told you many times not to alter my posts like that.  And still you don't listen. If you think I've changed my mind, I haven't: every single time you pull this crap, I report it.

Hey, why don't you report your neighbours for playing their music too loud, you big ninny?

The Price (<joke)

I think it was the music at the screen where you need to press start, that really got me hyped out and let's not forget the storyline in both ME1&2.

The very character creator in ME1 - that woman's voice, music and data corrupted thingy and then having Anderson, Hackett and Udina talking about my colonist/sole survivor Nim Shepard... I still remember goose bumps I got. It's just ME series bring up that special feeling I got then.

My Mother came over my house once and I had kind of the same experience. She sat down and watched me play. When I stopped the game she was suddenly shocked. She said she thought she was watching a movie.  lol Then asked me to keep playing.

For me, it came in waves. Eden prime, watching Jenkins bite the bullet after having reprimanded his need for action had me actually feeling bad that I said anything. This may have been the first time in any video game that I felt guilty for my actions. Second was my meeting with the counsel and having Saren dress me down and feeling a real and tangible hatred for that turian scumbag. Third was Feros and the Thorian. Wow, that is.....disturbing. And finally, the meeting sovereign was the deal sealer, I am going to play this to the end. And by the end, I mean any and every game that is associated with this story. Sequels, iPhone apps, books, I would even give an mmo (and now I need to wash myself for such a dirty thought....I am married, no need to live in nerd fantasy land) a shot.

Accept so far - only the Ashley-thing bugs me a bit: Ashley shot Wrex because Wrex was about to shoot Shepard. So she was protecting you. But yeah, with enough paragon / Wrex' family armor recovered you can save Wrex.

Whatever, Virmire comes with a lot of good moments and got me hooked too.

They don't do that, and besides, I'd just ask them first if they did.  Same way I asked you, but you apparently lack common courtesy, in addition to the native intelligence that would allow you to understand why mangling people's words to mean the exact opposite of what was intended, and giving no indication that you've done so, is something they don't appreciate.

You're probably aware of this already but don't bother using the Report button as it is effectively useless. You need to manually PM an admin/mod and personally inform them.

Ah, Dark_Caduceus is up to his tricks again? You'd think he'd be bored of it by now. Maybe he's "special". And yeah, the report button does nothing. I've been reporting him for months.

Yeah, it's worthless. That's why you PM the mods directly.  They even recommend it.

OK, noted. And do the mods do anything, in your experience? I've seen that yhey lock threads that get REALLY out of hand, and threads that bash BW/ME, but beyond that they don't seem too concerned with the behaviour of posters. Well, until you insult a moderator... then they actually do something, I've found.

I am aware of what Ashley did and her intentions. However, I was shocked at the way she did it and the malice in her voice when she says "sorry friend". It all seemed tied in with her alien hate and frankly I saw a side of her that I didn't like.

The dialogue wheel. It created a seamless gameplay experience where previously there had been box + wall of text + wait for response. For the type of RPG that ME is/was, it was much more immersive.

As soon as I started ME2 I knew I was playing a VERY "speshul" game with very "speshul" ramifications for the legacy of the franchise.

Javier has. E.g., once he locked a dupe thread, but it was the older one and most conversation was going on in there.  So I asked him to swap the lock to the newer one, and he did.   I haven't interacted on "official" terms with any others (except for Woo, who's warned me about a couple things and temp banned me once as a result of posting an admittedly disturbing Metalocalypse screencap.  It was still funny though).
