As soon as I started ME2 I knew I was playing a VERY "speshul" game with very "speshul" ramifications for the legacy of the franchise.

You didn't like ME2? Unfortunate. It was a fun game, I thought, with solid gameplay and an endearing character-driven story.

I am aware of what Ashley did and her intentions. However, I was shocked at the way she did it and the malice in her voice when she says "sorry friend". It all seemed tied in with her alien hate and frankly I saw a side of her that I didn't like.

I'm not intenting to "hijack" the thread for another Virmire-debate - just one or two more lines about that:

How would you react if someone you don't fully trust suddenly pulls a gun, points at a friend of yours and is about shooting him / her? You would take him down. And you would utter some bitter lines.
I think Ash was on quite good terms with Wrex except she didn't fully trust an ex-mercenary that much. When Wrex pulled his gun, her fears that he betrays Shepard came true and her distrust got a valid basis.
Understandable in my eyes.

Never had that scene. Picking Kaidan or Ashley to go with Kirrahe - and who has to sacrifice his or her life for the rest of the crew - that gave me the idea I could make a difference. And moments like this make the ME series special.

The moment that ME became special for me was when I knocked Dr. Manuel out on Eden Prime. I replayed that section at least 10 times before moving on with the mission. Hoping he'll be back in ME3.

Lots of other media will have one or two special moments, but then that's it.
Mass Effect is full of special moments, and that's what makes it special to me.

For me, it came in waves. Eden prime, watching Jenkins bite the bullet after having reprimanded his need for action had me actually feeling bad that I said anything. This may have been the first time in any video game that I felt guilty for my actions. Second was my meeting with the counsel and having Saren dress me down and feeling a real and tangible hatred for that turian scumbag. Third was Feros and the Thorian. Wow, that is.....disturbing. And finally, the meeting sovereign was the deal sealer, I am going to play this to the end. And by the end, I mean any and every game that is associated with this story. Sequels, iPhone apps, books, I would even give an mmo (and now I need to wash myself for such a dirty thought....I am married, no need to live in nerd fantasy land) a shot.

Pretty much sums up on how I feel about the series. Even played that Mass Effect Galaxy
