Too bad they never lived up to that.

Indeed.

My vote goes for reboot ME series 2017 ^^

I'd have to go with the opening of ME too, the walk to the cockpit, the music. Conversations shortly after with Chakwas, Anderson and Nihlus ... just great stuff.

Well, I wasn't too into ME in the beginning of my first playthrough, but once I landed on an uncharted world, and realized that I could explore the area to my hearts desire and find all types of things, and once I hit Virmire and heard Sovereign speak about what was really going on, I was hooked.

Opening scene of ME1 where Shepard did the cool walk and the cheesy determined face as the camera panned around.

YUP. THIS IS SOME GOOD SH*T RIGHT HERE.

The opening scene honestly. But me convincing Saren to kill himself sealed the deal

oooo - hard to answer that question precisely since it just grew and grew on me.  There was just moment after moment where it was just fun and I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough.  I liked the Citadel, I liked Noveria, I liked Zhu's Hope - I hated Virmire but loved it at the same time.  I grew to love the characters.  If you were to ask me my favourite part, I would say from Ilos to the end.  I could play that sequence time and time again.  But I loved the game long before I got to that.

I actually played part of ME2 before I got the first game (long story, won't bore you).  I like both games a lot but like ME1 best just for the emotional memory of it.  The characters really made it for me.  Like when you meet Wrex for the first time.  I thought, 'oh just some big muscle-bound guy, mercenary, created to stomp around and on people and look cool. meh.'  And then a little while later, my CS was talking to Wrex and I suddenly thought 'Hey, wait a minute, I like you.'  I know that was supposed to be how it went but I really liked the character development of your squadmates.

I think perhaps, the first thing that really got me hooked was Shepard herself - I fell in love with her at the beginning, I think.  I remember telling my husband that I really liked the character because it made such a GREAT change to play as a normal woman - person, even.  One who was autonomous and respected and didn't say things that conformed to some idiot developer's idea of what a woman 'should' be or 'would' do in any given situation.  The reason for that, of course, is that the part was written for a male character and they didn't change the dialogue. HUR-bloody-RAH!   <gets out bunting and marching band>  :wizard: And if you don't think that's a normal woman - remember women and men are the same species and are more alike than they are different.  Anyway, for a woman player, femShep is the best.

After a couple dialogues on the Normandy. The conversation wheel was a cool feature after the tired old plain list of options I was expecting; facial expressions felt natural and the filmlike "shot/reverse shot" thing was very cool after the crude approach to conversations of other RPGs I had played like Fallout 3; and I hadn't heard Jennifer Hale's voice before. By the time my Shep told Pressley "you don't trust Nihlus", I was sold.

there were lots of moments in ME 1 for me. Probably the most notable was landing on my first uncharted planet. For the first time in a really long time I actually felt like I was playing a true open worlded RPG, and one in space at that! After that, the decisions and romancing deffinately played a large role in making me like it, and the looooooooong playthrough made the game feel like I had really gotten my money's worth.

- first walk on the Citadel: I think I spent like 10 hours on the Citadel the first time through...
- my first uncharted planet
- Virmire and the Sovereign reveal
- Ilos and the dialogue with Vigil: my favourite part of the game

This plus the opening cutscene of ME1, Saren's betrayal of Nihlus, Garrus and Wrex's intros,  and the battle of the Citadel

The intro of ME1, probably. Can't really remember why I bought the game in the first place, but after that scene I knew I was in for a great time.

On Virmire, I realised the ME series was special.
At the start of ME2, I realised the ME series was "special".

From a guy coming to this game without seeing any trailers, clips, story or game play with no information what it was about.

The conversation with Sovereign was the pinnacle moment for me. Now that was an EPIC moment.

It may seem strange but  Feros really lured me in. I mean it's a nightmare of a mission but for me that was the point of my Shep being a spectre and chasing after Saren. To give help to those who need it. Super hero style.

When the alarm went off in the morning for me to go to work. I was so immersed in the ME world that I had completely lost track of time and played all night.

I had that happen with books but never with a video game.

"That´s the only kind of person who can protect the galaxy" (Sole Survivor), followed by the intro and the Mass Effect theme.

Probably the title reveal in Mass Effect one, felt like a cinematic experiance then the rest of the game happened :) If I had to choose a game moment probably the galaxy map and commanding the Normandy to the stars.

In the ME intro, when they are talking about your background and what you have accomplished while acknowledging your choices in the character creation. That was when I knew this would be awesome.

Watching my brother play it and actually wanting to borrow it (normally don't like games where I have to shoot - my aim is atrocious but ME fixed it!)
I think it was the prothean vision bit that grabbed me first.

As for ME3, I had to buy the collector's edition after seeing in the demo Shepard and Anderson falling and sliding down that building after that explosion. Wow..
