Approaching the Cidatel. At the cut-scene with the inbound trajectory to the station's alliance docking bays, I realized this might be about the only pure hard sci-fi, space opera like, game out there. And it's well done too. Kudos to the entire development team. (not the actors... :D)

P.S.: I was also alarmed to the amount of background information the game was starting, peaking at the discussion with Nihlus. I had no idea of what's to come.

when ME2 was announced and I watched the trailer.

ME1 was ok but ME2 is one of the greatest games i've played on the Xbox 360.

The first time the Citadel comes into view, emerging from the Nebula and the Normandy's approach to the docking station. The music in that scene is a huge part of it.

There aren't many truly breathtaking moments in video gaming. That was one of them.

EDIT: Also, the Codex. Shows just how much work the writers put into the setting and really helps to establish the game not just as a reconstruction of the space opera, but also as a relatively hard piece of military sci-fi.

The elevators. Yeah, I said it.

Seriously though, I love the ambient conversations between characters... I think that's what first sold me on the series. Although, I'm hoping in ME3 they integrate more of it since ME2 was sadly lacking IMO.  I'm pro at derailing threads, so I'll just stop there.

This. And if it wasn't for Skyrim and FFXIII I'd say that with ease. But it was ME2 that really got me to love the ME series. ME1 was great and all, but I was annoyed by the gameplay a lot and it was over shadowed for me cause it came out the same year as Halo 3. But ME2 is one of the best games I've ever played. The characters, story, and even the game mechanics. The whole game sucked me in, even after beating it six times I still can't bring myself to skip the dialogue cause I still get drawn in to the game.

Started with ME2, and crazy it may sound I actually got hooked walking down the hall toward afterlife the first time. It reminded me of some sci-fi cartoons and movies. Got to archangel and decided to buy mass effect 1 and start over completely, the encounter with sovereign on virmire sealed it for me.

(1) Docking on the Citadel
(2) Sovereign and Saren dialogue on Virmire
(3) Noveria -- was awesome all around

*Honorable mention* Credits with M4 Faunts(that was like the perfect ending music)

Those were my most memorable/wow moments.

He'll take his revenge on you in ME3 I'm sure.

He's dead in Firewalker DLC.

Really? I gotta play that! I've been postponing playing every other DLC except LOTSB and Arrival.

It was one of the more disappointing moments finding out that Manuel was dead in such a anticlimatic way.

As for my "moment." Either when I became a Spectre in ME1 or when Saren realized what he had done and blew his brains out to stop it. That was a literal "Oh, snap!" moment for me. ME2...not so much. "A giant terminator? Really?"

EDIT: I want more Faunts.

Because he had such a substantial, nuanced character arc that clearly deserved an epic ending?

Yeah, that kind of sucked, he was one of the more interesting characters.

I dunno, he seemed like a pretty stock, superfluous charcter to me.

I got to agree, i mean i only talked to him for a minute out of the 40+ hours i spent playing the game. He wasn't exactly important, at the most he foreshadows something was wrong on Eden Prime (other than the obvious geth invasion)

I played ME1, but honestly didn't finish it on the first play-through because the combat was so frustrating at times. But I'd have to say the series sucked me back in with the opening cinematic to ME2 and Shepard dying. I couldn't recall another game that began by killing off the lead character from the word "go." From that moment on, I was hooked. (And HAD to go back and finish ME1.)

I've told you many times not to alter my posts like that.  And still you don't listen. If you think I've changed my mind, I haven't: every single time you pull this crap, I report it.

The first time i landed on an uncharted world in the mako in ME1, i was truly mesmerised at the possibility of searching a planet. The second time was when i had the option to punch that annoying news reporter in the face. Nice!

It was the encounter with Vigil on Ilos for me, I remeber feeling the epicness on the lift down to the Watchers Chamber. I still get chills everytime I do this part in ME1, amazing scene!
