I don't think it has anything to do with gender...or do you think most people would pick Ashley over Garrus or Wrex too?
I actually agree. My boyfriend saves Kaidan and he's male.. obviously.
And i know a few men who would save him aswell but i do think that a certain kind of male would choose to leave him just because he's male,

He also... doesn't seem to have much of a continuing story. Ashley, however, does.leborum wrote...
People say he's boring. I think he's just not a catalyst. He's not an alien, which are inherently cool, and he doesn't have any crazy cause or shocking views. He's just a normal guy... who can kill you with one kick.

The story part is why I changed my mind about who gets nuked actually. I saved Ashley during my first two playthroughs, but listening to the memorial bits in ME2 changed my mind about that one. Ash getting the Salarian medal just stikes me as giving her death the better story/closure. Kaidan's was so bland that I could never kill him again since I felt like his death came off as a waste while hers meant something.

@Xil - I think that part of the continuing story of either VS is getting out of Shepard's shadow. I'm really hoping that in ME3, we get to learn what Kaidan (or Ash) has been up to. It's not like the council just hands out Spectre titles.

Anyways his fanbase was inevitable.
Have you heard him speak?? he could read me a telephone book and I'd listen.
He could read me geography and I would listen with awe
he could set us up the bomb and volunteer for a suicide mission. Bros like that r hard to come by. Hes got ALL our backs, either be maleshep or one of the femsheps. No pun intended, except for femshep cuz hes romanceable.
Exactly that. He is loyal, trustworthy, and he is a great soldier who has no ego. That is why I like the guy, he is charming, witty, and a powerful biotic but not stuck-up about it. He is just a regular normal person, who If he was real I would associate with in real life. I couldn't say that for most ME characters if they were real.

Well, it has some influence in the choice... When you are MaleShep, you keep Kaidan at arm's lenght, because you don't have another choice. His dialogue as a friend is... ok. I didn't bother with the guy until I played as FemShep, I realized that the guy is cute, romantic and a good person. And I like the fact that he doesn't take relationships and sex lightly. It's a shame really, the fact that you have to romance a character to know him.

Think about the rule in ships to let women and children board the emergency boats first, even though if anything our planet is overpopulated and we have no immediate population concerns that justify prioritizing female lives over male ones.
Normally men love to gripe about how feminist women are man-haters and want to see men held down, but in my experience it's usually straight men who are the most vehement in expressing disdain against fellow men.

^ I completely agree. It felt like Ash redeemed the Williams name when she got nuked on Virmire.

But in saving the galaxy and then later becoming an officer and even a spectre doesn't?
That's a much better story than... "nuked on virmire".

He, unlike Ashley, seems to be at the peak of his career. He's a Major and the second human Spectre. He's the only squadmate I'd see as being superior to Shepard. He's more mature, age wise and probably mentally as well, he's a powerful biotic and great with tech to go along with it, so he's a jack of all trades. It's not a surpise that he, along ith Miranda as the other sentinel squaddie, are as solid as they are and that plays into both of their characters and stories.Xilizhra wrote...

...and immature, homophobic, and inaccurate. "Gays need an icon?" Good luck with the rest of your puberty, kid. <_<
And the talent of a pop singer is irrelevant. The measure of any artist's talent is always subjective. There are people who think Picasso simply couldn't draw, that Van Gogh was an overrated idiot, and that Jackson ****** was a one-trick pony. One person's genius is another person's hack.
The fixed version of the original statement should be: "Same reason people like Lady Gaga: people like what they like."

Not that Ash dying on Virmire is better than becoming the second human spectre, which is obviously preferable, you know, for her.

ew destroy this. im so sickntired of this hairy chest crap with bioware characters.
you know, in real life men actualy have chest hair. the ones you see in pictures shave it off, the same way women shave their legs. its sad really, that we have such trouble accepting something so natural.
There's a reason they shave it off. Beastiality is very illegal.
Besides...You can't see my chest hair, and they're are a lot of men who don't have any.
