Would a dev be willing to comment on companion AI for ME3?

I just wasn't satisfied with the behavior of companion characters in battle in ME2.  It's not that they don't take cover (well most of the time) but they think nothing of standing up out of cover to go toe to toe with a YMIR mech.  I'm not asking for a level of control over the characters on the level of dragon age but at least make them a little more cautious.  I'm tired of losing someone because they do something mind numbingly stupid.

this is in fact, a good question, i would assume they have worked on their AI in general (because of MP alone). Yet it would be nice to have an official word on it, on how much work went into it.  :)

On a side note, the AI in FEAR 1 was one of the best, if not the best ever in any kind of shooter i have played.

I got really lucky with my copy of ME2... in it, teammates' AI are good.

Yeah, it's always weird to see Zaeed step out of cover to shoot the YMIR's at point blank range. DUDE, YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY THIS POINT.

No AI will ever be as good as managing your squad. If you hate managing your squad, assign them to some very safe place and manage their powers for them. They don't need a straight line of sight to the target. Shepard does.

Or worse: Taking cover for 3 seconds, only standing up and firing a few shots once the YMIR starts using it's machine guns. Told them a dozen times: Unless you have tech armor or barrier activated, do not try to soak up a YMIR's machine gun fire.<_<

Definitely agreed.  I liked actually seeing them use environments, and you were pretty much guaranteed to never have the exact same shootout twice.

Sadly, I feel that most RPGs have some sort of "get out of AI free" card they always use; to my knowledge, none of the RPGs I've played have had particularly good AI (though I admit I have not played them all).  Harder difficulties always just mean the enemies have more HP/damage/powers, and conversely that your teammates die quicker.

I would agree, the companion AI has always been pretty bad. I can't count the number of times that Miranda has gotten herself killed doing something stupid. And for someone who's been genetically engineered to be the best at everything, well...I expect better than her running straight out into the middle of the room without taking cover, etc. :P

Get those same team mates to stay where Shep puts them....(behind the crates, on the high platform)...when you activate the two YMIR's on Garrus's LM....<_<...:pinched:

This is where , in my opinion , Katsumi & Grunt really shine.

Their abilities compensate a great deal for the lapse in Ai behavior. Katsumi's Ss & FBG can be used to give her a few seconds breathing room and Grunt's natural regeneration means he can walts around the battle field with little player micro-management. Really made my Infiltrator runs a breeze .

If they didn't improve Ai , i would hope they'd give similar means to add survivabilty to the Squad mates.

Also helps if you're a vanguard, everyone wants to attack you, not your teammates!  Definitely agreed with the Kasumi and Grunt deal, I've also found that characters with single shot sniper rifles (Mantis or Widow) tend to live more, as they spend more time reloading in cover.

I would agree about Kasumi, but not Grunt...his a medi gel sponge for me...<_<..."No Grunt! You can NOT run straight into a husk horde and expect to survive"........:pinched:....Outfitting Sniper ability team mates with their Sniper Rifles certainly does help a great deal in keeping them up and running 90% of the time....Thus Team Sniper for my Infiltrator on the highest majority of missions...is extremely rare for me to loose team mates then.
