This is possible by equipping, for example, 4 pieces of willpower-increasing gear to raise will from 14 to 18. Then equipping an item like Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness (will requirement = 18). Then removing the items that raised your will, dropping it back to 14, but not removing the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness.
I didn't notice a penalty/drawback to this...but am I missing something? I know there were problems pre-patch 1.03 with gear and stats (glitches that permanently lowered your stats), so hopefully this doesn't cause any issues.
Any penalty for being below the stat requirements on gear you're wearing?

Nope, pre-buffing is where it's at. I pre-buff for almost everything.
The only problem pre-patch was to do with valiance runes- something to do with equipping them in different slots and the +attribute differences somehow been subtracted or something. They fixed that anyhow I think. That and utterly nerfing them haha.
