Should be receiving these any day & I’m looking forward to playing this game [finally!].

I was hoping to find some character builds/guides which I enjoyed in NVN 1.

IN NWN – my favorite was probably the dual wielding weapon/kukri master.  In Baldur’s Gate – my favorite build was the monk.  I also somewhat enjoyed the Red Dragon Disciple in NWN (spell casting is fun!).

NWN2 looks rather complex in the sheer amount of option for classes & feats.  To make things more complex I have yet to order the 2nd expansion.

Based on my above favorite classes listed above, could anyone share any advice on what builds I should try first?  I’ve been away from this a while so which feats/abilities/etc… will be difficult to negotiate.

I enjoy casting spells, but the roguish/WM thing was probably my favorite.  (Especially loved the damage and attack speed dual wielding kukris).  I will be playing the campaigns single player first of course.

Any suggestions are welcome.  I don’t mind cookie cutter builds.  I simply want to play through both campaigns the first time without starting over due to my lack of knowledge regarding viable builds.

Thanks in Advance,
Haight

Welcome!

If you haven't yet, you should check out the welcome thread, though if you're an NWN1 veteran I imagine you'll know more or less what you're doing. It does have a lot of handy links, though.

If it's character builds you're looking for, I would direct you to nwn2db.com, a big database for builds and things which people can make and critique.

A few things are different in terms of balance in NWN2. For example, the Weapon Master is not so favoured because of the other options out there and the kinds of enemies you come up against, I think.
Dual-wielding kukri builds are still great, because you can enchant those kukris up so they deal almost as much damage as greatswords (that is to say, the base damage becomes less important).
The Red Dragon Disciple is still a pretty awesome class, but it's never really been great for spellcasting. Your best bet is to take a single-level Bard dip and play an otherwise melee character (or go melee Bard); for a fighter/caster type, consider the Eldritch Knight.

Yes NWN2 has a lot of options and things but I wouldn't say there are significantly more things than there were in NWN1, really. A lot of things still work the same so by and large builds which worked in NWN1 will work in NWN2, though not always quite so well.

Very helpful, thank you The Fred.

The character build site is quite imperssive & daunting as well. Guess I have my reserach cut out for me in the near future....... :)

Also I'll be getting the 2nd expansion as well.

Like in NWN1 the NWN2 OC and MotB campaigns are designed to work with a single main PC that you build and you are joined by companions who have various classes. The companions represent most of the available classes, but each has only one class and you will not be allowed to change their class or multi-class them. So if you really enjoy building characters you may find the unmodified OC and MotB limiting. The second expansion, SoZ is more like Baldur's Gate, in which you have the option of creating a party as well as having characters you meet along the way that can be added into your party.

If you want the party creation abilities of SoZ in the OC and MotB you can do so by installing the OC Makeover SoZ Edition and MotB Makeover SoZ Edition (links in my signature below), but they do require that you have SoZ installed as well.

Kaedrin's PrC pack (available in the NWVault) adds a large number of other Prestige classes that can be played in the games, so you should take a look at that as well if you have that interest.

Have fun playing.

Regards

As far as dual-wielding goes, a Ranger / BG or Paladin with Divine Might (and eventually Epic Divine Might in the MotB expansion) will be very strong.

Dual-wielding kukris with all the enhanced critical hit feats is always fun - until you have to fight undead, elementals or constructs (ie. anything that is immune to critical hits). Unfortunately the first two official campaigns have a lot of those sorts of enemies.

As for build assistance - the first campaign is such a cake-walk that you could wing it and still have no problems. All you really need is to figure out what prestige class (or classes) you are interested in, then aim to meet the minimum prerequisites. Other than that, planning out each and every skill point, ability score and feat down to the last detail takes the fun out of things in my opinion. Sometimes playing a character with a few weaknesses makes for more of a challenge.
