Thane. Very complex, a father, and a friend to Shepard. Even though he worked as an assasin, he always wants to help people. I also like Legion.

Garrus and Tali, although they do have the advantage of being two of the only characters in the series to have a trilogy-spanning arc, which kind of makes it an unbalanced comparison. After them I'd probably say Mordin, or possibly Liara (she gained a lot of depth with LotSB).

In my opinion

1.Tali. She is actually one of those character who feels most authentic. She has both bad and good traits in her.

2. Mordin. Just like Tali, Mordin's personality is both complex and easy going at the same time. He has a moral which is easy to catch up but at the same time as any normal person Mordin also have an intrinsic struggle. This makes him easy to like and dislike.

3. T.I.M. his personality is like his name which makes it intriguing to know more.

What do you consider to be Tali's bad traits

Sovereign (not relatable, but that’s what made him/it so great), Mordin, and Legion. It used to be TIM until I read his back story found in the comics…

3. Tali. Watched her grow from a young punk on the pilgramidge to an experienced quarian with a thing for a certain protagonist. Best evolved character.
2. Wrex. No other character makes me feel both the strengths and the weaknesses of there species quite like this. He isn't a saint, he isn't a demon, he has a killer mean streak, but has scruples that he sticks to and it's consistent and surprising.
1. Sovereign. I hate the reapers specifically because of that one conversation. No other character made this story what it was quite like it did. I feel the weight of this fight only because of it. I have never felt as much pride in accomplishment in a video game quite like killing sovereign (well, more specifically, saran as a stooge controlled by sovereign). The insanity badge only has weight for me because of it.

Liara. She has Developed a lot over the course of the Series. A close second is Tali/Garrus

Pretty much this.

If we're including novel characters, Grayson would be up there as well.

TIM, Jack, Mordin and Garrus

Jack was a little underdeveloped, but pretty close to nagging the #1 spot.

Edit: On second though...Saren, Wrex and Ashley...ugh, this is getting complicated.

Mordin, Thane, and Tali.

Mordin got some great lines, and his arc was really thought-provoking and made me reconsider some preconceptions I had. Thane is just really easy to relate to and he probably has some of the most emotional baggage to deal with. Tali's just a really fun character, and I like how they fleshed her out from the first game.

Ashley, by far the most complex and humane character in the series. Which is why she's not very popular, IMHO (at least before the visual "improvement").

Legion and Mordin next, though it's hard for me to pick.

As others stated befote, the other characters (Garrus, Liara, Tali, Jack, Thane, etc.)
benefit a lot from the fantastic voice acting.

Kaidan, he's down to Earth, mature, thoughtful, has emotions and feelings, treats shep like a human being and not a killing machine, he's loyal(without a loyalty mission) and stands up for what he believes in.  I dislike that he's maybe a little shy so people call him boring, and I can relate to him to sticking to what is right, instead of blind loyalty.  He's just... human to me, he makes mistakes and lives with them, he let's it mold him into a great man, he doesn't let it drag him down.  I wish someone like him existed :(
To me he's so wel written, I can't find a fault.

Mordin. Noone else is quite in his league.

Honourable mention for the Ashley, Miranda, Samara, Wrex, Garrus and Tali.

For me its Jack, Miranda and Ashley.

Jack although a bit cliched shows probably the most growth of any character during mass effect particularly if romanced paragonly.

Miranda is not how she at first seems to be, her motivations and her character are complex and trying to figure her out is incredibly challenging.

Ashley is also completely different than she first appears, when you actually get to know her character its amazing how much depth there is, her religon, her views, her family connections all of these shape who she is but on their own just don't tell the full story, its the combination of all of these aspects that define her.

Saren, easy to both dislike and like. A great villain.
Mordin, how did they manage to give him a top level badassness, wisdom and funnyness at the same time?
Conrad Verner, if there is someone who is a true hero at heart it's Conrad Verner. The fact that he is a inept and stupid coward but still tries his best to make things better makes him even more heroic.

In no order: Legion, Thane, EDI, Ashley, TIM, Tali, Mordin, and perhaps Liara.

It is no wonder that all three of Chris L'Etoile's characters are that good.

Samara. Mainly because of her complexity and inner conflict.

If I had to break it down to one it would have to be Ashley. Probably my favourite LI in any Bioware game I played, one of my favourite female characters in any game and all in all just an interesting and well written character. At least in ME1, I desperately hope they do her justice in ME3.

I echo this sentiment on all accounts!

Seriously, hope they do her justice in ME3... doesn't help that her original writer isn't at BioWare and thus isn't writing her anymore. :crying:

In my opinion Mordin is the best in the series so far, but Liara and Wrex are shortly after him, and Samara is a personal favourite of mine.
