The OP is asking about which are the best written characters, please stay on topic to that and not nitpicking about what's wrong with others (if you want to talk about that, make a new thread...

...and we'll lock it).

I will never lock a thread that contains well-meaning constructive criticism. Posted Image

As far as the best written characters go, I'd have to say Garrus (the writing plus VO are the sole motivators for me romancing a giant crustacean). I also really love talking to Matriarch Aethyta the bartender on Illium. The writing however is superb overall.

Maybe you won't, but there is a remarkable tendency on BSN for threads of, shall we say, a less positive nature (constructive or otherwise) to get locked.

Usually those threads end up with multiple people flaming Bioware and each other. Eventually it gets off topic incredibly fast to. BSN has a tendency to go off topic very very quickly in threads.

'specially when talking about how threads go OT on BSN in a thread with an entirely different topic than talking about how threads go OT on BSN.

*armchair mod mode off*

:innocent: I'll leave before someone locks this thread ... B)

So that would mean you are part of the reason this maybe off topic about commenting on something you consider off topic.

That would also make you part of the reason. And me as well, I suppose.

That is what I was getting at. Its just stupid to make any small post to seem totally off topic and derailing the thread. Now it is getting rather off topic and should just get back on the topic of this thread.

Garrus is the best, especially in ME2.  I always envisioned me and him as space cowboys, an intergalactic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, if you will.  I just couldn't say no to him when he sought revenge even during my predominately paragon playthrough and there is something awesome to be said about that.  Too bad he's a relatively weak squaddie, I usually bring him along anyway just for the badass company.
And of course my lover Tali.  There are few as passionate and persistent.  She too got way better in ME2, she was a little too adolescent acting in ME1.  All in all I agree with the signature of the person above me!

Ashley, I think she is the most life like character I have seen in any game. I think BioWare did something really amazing there.

Mordin, writing and delivery is just fantastic! Character, despite being both, funny and tragic also feels like an alien.

Garrus in ME was IMO very good portrayal of a very though cop. I think his character worked well in ME2 too, but then, calibrations...
